OT: Do you like Patio Homes? Eichlers, Mackays, etc.

money was invented for handing to women, but buying dances is a chump's game
Some people like them, some people don't. Not built in all areas. Here because of moderate climate and low humidity, meaning less insects.
They speak to a desire for informal life, and "merging the indoors with the outdoors".
So usually it has to be a whole neighborhood because of the large windows, and keeping it one story.
"Not just building homes, building a lifestyle."
But they may be energy inefficient and cold, because of the windows. Usually large fascia timbers and roof beams, and these are exposed. They may not weather well, and may incur high up keep costs. Many people do modify them in ways which ruin the effect.
And then if there are two story houses or other types of houses, this can ruin the yard privacy.
Some people call them fire traps, or see them as cheapie houses, like vacation cabins.
I do like them, but I see how there can be problems.
Usually the Eichler floor heating fails and gets replaced with something else.
I like he slab floor design and the simplicity. But there are also other ways to do this.
Can be two story.
And consider how similar the are to Wright's Usonians from the 30's.

Walter and Mary Ellen Rudin, Mathematicians both.

Wright's later stuff, 1930's forward opened up lots of doors. His stuff was for ordinary people, and each Usonian was unique.
But those who followed this openness, they were mostly building fat cat houses.
But Eichler's homes, all also unique and designed by professional architects, they were also affordable.

But you don't really know the field unless you have read Rudin.

Others are from Wright's other projects.
In the Usonian's the often look like motor yachts, all the built in furniture, just big enough, but you can't really add anything.

But I'm not really a fan of suburbia. It is impractical, too much money for an illusion, your windows too close to the neighbor's windows.
I more like funky places. Very rural, or totally urban and stealth.
