Another Blow Out ADP Report

Nearly 300k jobs created last months. Nevertheless whack jobs on both the left and right will find some straw to grasp at to deny the obvious fact that we are in an economic boom.

ADP numbers were always "fake" when Obama was in office. Trump will be taking credit for this jobs report any second now...

Statistics don't lie; people do. Creating 300,000 minimum wage jobs meant shit under obama and it means the same under Trump. Other than the fake, inflated stock market, there is no evidence of a boom and the stock market only helps the rich and unions. Working people are still getting fucked, like they always do. One day they will realize this and our civil war can begin. Just so you less than intelligent folks, like doug, understand waht I said: Obama is a cunt; Trump is a cunt and we are in serious economic trouble.

Yeah we are in serious economic trouble when I can't get a seat in my favorite restaurants. The waiting time last night was an hour, on a Tuesday night!!

Wtf is happening to our economy? We are doomed! Sell, sell, sell and stock up on non perishable goods and ammunition, because that will be the only currency valid in the new world order. Right?

Hard to gauge Trump - I guess we'll have to take him on a year-by-year basis to see if he's done good or not - i.e. assess at end of year 1, 2, etc.

@Meat that's a line I've been using for a while now, tell the idiots to look at how luxury goods are flying off the shelves, or pricey autos are selling faster and quicker than Chevrolet's, By any yardstick you use to measure, things are pretty good and probably have been for the last 2-3 years now, I hope it continues and we don't get into any new shooting wars.
  • Mate27

    Lol! Classic Gassagain...

25, we all know it's a story of 2 economies which has been since society began. Nothing had changed between the haves and have nots.

If you're poor with low wages your economy sucks. The educated and ones who hustle are thriving.

Why isn't Main Street accumulating more capital? I think that is to which skibum alludes. The process of "saving, investing (or opening one's own business), building wealth" isn't happening for most of Main Street. Main Street is maybe due for a come to Jesus meeting?

BUSINESS: "There's a shortage of talent!"
MAIN STREET: "There are no good jobs and/or no one's hiring!"

    = Mexican standoff?

Main Street probably needs to learn how to seek out and how to recognize opportunity. I think that is the disconnect. OR lower one's standard of living in the meantime if ends are meeting paycheck-to-paycheck. OR switch to a career that has growth or promotion potential, keep expenses low, and accumulate capital instruments. :)
  • Dominic77

    ^^^ "if the ends AREN'T meeting paycheck-to-paycheck" .. sorry typographical error. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Meat is right out education and hustling. Lots of kids got terrible or incomplete mentoring in the form of:
    1. Stay in school, get good grades
    2. Go to college, get a degree
    3. ??
    4. profit!
    5. Option: Do what you love and the money will follow, LMFAO!!

So the reckoning it still happening. It's very sink or swim. I think some will figure it out in the end. Hustle is what's missing. It makes the average joe dumber than the average stripper. Think about that!

In a capitalist/free-market system, those at the bottom (low-skills) will often struggle and not be able to "keep-up with the Joneses" - in a free-market/capitalist system those w/ the right skills will usually have much better outcomes.

If one wants a tighter band b/w the-haves and the have-nots, then a socialist system is better.

A capitalist system has a much much higher ceiling and why entrepreneurs and risk-takers come to America from all over the world - a socialist system usually has a higher floor but a lower ceiling but a capitalist system IMO offers the most opportunities.
  • twentyfive

@Meat there have always been two economies but the beauty of America, has always been the essential truth that you have the opportunity to belong to which ever economy you desire and aspire to, through your own efforts. Make no mistake, there is not always equal opportunity, but if you are willing to persevere you can succeed, and with a little help, and hard work you are able to succeed, beyond your wildest imagination. Some people need more help than others that may be true, but our society is classless in the fact that anyone can join whatever class they want and although others may resent your success they can't prevent you from succeeding.
@Dominic I PMed you a few weeks ago if you read my message you will see my theory about what makes it hard for average wage earners to get ahead let me know if you agree or not .

if the economy keeps improving perhaps there may be a new "gilded stripper age" where they can bank as they did in the 90s and early/mid 2000s - and w/ mo-$$$ in the clubs perhaps talent will also go up.

So looks like the ADP report caused a market rally in the morning, followed by a big retreat at the mere mention that the FED would start to unload all those treasuries and MBS they bought during QE. 4.5 Trillion with a T.

Be interesting to see what happens to the markets when the FED starts to "undo" QE. Yellen will probably get fired. "YOU'RE FIRED!"

25 the word is Ignoramus. No way do we return to the gilded age Papi. If you recall every store had a humidor back then and no tee times were to be had. Couldn't get a seat in a strip club. Since then 95% of cigar manufacturers have disappeared; golf courses are going out of businesses and strip clubs are empty and cheaper. The very rich did well under Obama though.

I think the issue is, does one thing that booms are a good thing?

Does one think that booms are to be encouraged and busts avoided?

Or does one see booms and busts as closely associated and both indicative of a fundamentally unworkable economic system?

    SJG
  • san_jose_guy
I mean really, its like in Orwell's 1984, people getting all excited because the chocolate ration is being increased. It does nothing to address the fact that our economic system is unworkable and unsustainable and that things are getting worse with each of these boom and bust cycles.

So at least with the busts, there is more openness to talk about endemic structural problems and about what might address them.

With each boom and bust, our entire society becomes more of a Ponzi Scheme.

And you Dougster, our resident finance sector parasite, you are a major promoter of this Ponzi Scheme.

@Random: Yeah, ever since the health care bill got shot down the market has been making some big intraday swings in both direction. Many of which seem to have little real conviction, explanation, and otherwise have "phony" feels to them.

I didn't think the market would start selling on a health care vote because that would have been too obvious. But my convinction that Mar 1 was a short term top has been growing.

Going into to today it looked like the markets might be concerned about Europe, but I think the reaction to Fed minutes, along with all the phony volatility until now tilted its hand. I, thus, want to reiterate my call for caution in the current market.

I'm not touching any of the long term funds I look after, but I think short term players might even want to consider shorts right now. Again, thinking we could dip down to $227 on SPY.

Sounds like you're a fund manager and that must be pretty interesting work.

Don't really understand how the Fed goes about unwinding QE or whether it deserves to roil the markets the way it did today.
  • Mate27
The fed will slow down the projected rate of raising rates, maybe one or two this year and two next year.

They've boxed themselves in because raising too quickly increases their costs, and dumping their treasuries in the open market increases supply and devalues the price.

If there ever was a moment to give pause to the market its when these hit the market too quickly, soaking up the extra liquidity and combined with increasing the risk free rate. If find rates stay low the unwinding done slowly should continue markets slow and gentle rise.

Your problem is that you don't know when to quit, as a result most people have no respect for you and that is entirely your own fault. If you showed some respect maybe you might make a friend, instead you constantly harp on things that don't concern you because like most friendless people you don't know how to accept others. The belief of you and other friendless people is if they don't agree with me, they must be against me, and that simply isn't true. The real reason they are against you is because you are against them, I feel sorry for you and people like you because life is to be enjoyed and celebrated, diversity is important and should be affirmed not critiicized and protested.

I heard them saying the numbers must be wrong. The weather must gave screwed up the numbers. Maybe for March but it makes you wonder why they lowered the jobs numbers for the last two months as well.

Those missiles were accurate. Managed to avoid hitting all the Russian good planes at that airport they bombed. Russia screwed up big time just by letting Syria still have done chemical weapons when they promised Syria would get rid of all of them. Either Russia was in the dark or they flat out lied to Obama. Better not lie to Trump, he might want to see what happens when you press the button that says Nukes,

And I do know that those at the bottom and at the margins are going to have to rise up, and non-violence will not likely be adequate, as this is about Social Darwinism and Eugenics. An unequivocal commitment to non-violence, as the early MLK made, only makes things worse.

Once you lose all functions of common sense or decency, if you decide to make a physical advance on me I would simply end anything that you started. You're a little pussy who talks tough on the internet, but f2f can't do anything manly. You're idea of being a man is paying Asians for sex in an AAMP with a make out session/GFE. It's sad really....

Sell, sell, sell! The worm has turned. Tuesday night wait for a seat at a restaurant is only 45 minutes compared to last week's one hour wait. This is a total sign of a downturn in the economy. The sky is falling!
