Comedy scary or truly scary?
As far as comedy scary goes, I like Army of darkness but I've seen it so many times on tv recently, not too interested in watching it again.
I really can't remember the last time a movie actually scared me. Some of the paranormal movies seem a bit spooky. I really did like the old movie Heavy Metal but I don't believe that was a horror movie. Maybe science fiction.
Alien (1979) was kind of like a horror movie, same with the original Terminator.
For the "hack and slash" genre I like Chaos (2005 Dominion film) and Saw (2004) but those are more "exploitative" than "slasher" now that I think about it.
My wife is over my shoulder and she votes the original Hellraiser (1987). She likes horror movies but horror movies are not my thing.
The ending of "Terminator" was pretty scary the first time I watched.
But nothing has ever scared me as much "The Exorcist". I tend to watch movies over and over again. But I've never watched it after I first saw it in the theater.
I thought the recent "10 Cloverdale Lane" was a pretty good movie. No that scary, but John Goodman is such a good actor.
Frankenstein, the 1930's version. Frankenstein would come up from the basement. As a young boy, that frightened me greatly. For weeks I would not go into our basement at home.
Side notes: I was impressed with "Nightmare on Elm Street" 2010 remake. I might even prefer it to the original.
I refuse to watch The Exorcist. That shit is real, and it scares me to death.
I don't go in for gore porn like the Saw films.
I almost picked the original Nightmare on Elm St. before deciding on my favorite above. What I liked about Freddy (I don't know if anyone likes this aspect about him) but he eschewed an attitude "I know you all know this is fake but let's have some fun anyways" that I always liked. He was downright humorous at times. I'm not sure if the remake is the same way as I have not seen it.
I agree there is something inherently creepy about The Exorcist and Paranormal Activity movies. :-O
Even though most people wouldn't consider Jawsa scary movie, it was frightening to me. In that same decade, the Excorsist (spelling?) was truly scary, from start to finishfinish ,for me.
Probably all the Friday the 13th movies. I don't like scary movies, but those terrified me as a kid, and I was always excited to see the hot young coeds get naked in the shower before running into the guy in the hockey mask.

The Bad Seed (original 1956 version)
Brilliant!
But how else would you trim a bush? It's called a bushwhacker after all! ;)
