If you see a sign saying "no swimming alligators" and somebody tells you there is a huge alligator in the area it is non-brilliant to go swimming.
It is possible that he was confused by the absence of a comma in the sign and though it meant that there weren't swimming alligators in the area. But somehow I doubt that. The guy doesn't look like a high IQ guy!
Still it is sad he was alligator munched. :(

To add insult to injury, it was feeding the alligators that causes attacks, and he fed them! More attacks are likely now.
This was big news - a year ago.
ha Missing comma. Maybe the sign was for the Alligators, Segregation isn't over.
