Vehicle broke into while at strip club

Now, this didn't happen to me (thank god), but one of the guys I work with had his company vehicle broke into (and pretty much emptied of all sorts of company tools and parts) while he sat in s strip club last night (don't know exactly where, all I know was in Houston TX area). He called me up this morning to tell me and ask what I thought he should do. I asked if he got a police report (which he did), and that he had better call the boss before he hears about it (which, understandably he really dosent want to do). Waiting to see how this one plays out.

Question is anyone else have had a similar situation happen?

Taking a company car to a strip club seems like a...somewhat less than intelligent thing to do.

I really can't recall ever going to a strip club in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or Austin without seeing some glass in the parking lot somewhere - which meant, a window got bashed and someone's car got broken in to.

Taking a company vehicle is definitely a dumb move. If he really needs to do this I suggest he start springing for valet Parking as the valet area is usually under closer watch than the standard open parking areas.

Wish him Wel and hope it doesn't cost him his job.

Company vehicles typically have appropriate insurance to cover theft but if not, your friend will likely be expected to pay for replacement.

Hope your friend doesn't

Don't trust valet larking either. A few weeks ago Follies had a meeting with all of their valet guys because one of them let a drunk take off with another customer's rental car. True story!

I'd had guitar equipment in my car at the club, and I do worry sometimes. But it's in an okay neighborhood, has a lighted lot with lots of security cameras so if I have practice or a gig at night I might stop by on the way in the afternoon.

I only go during day shift, and odds are it could happen but much less likely.

It sucks to hear your buddy's story. It's not smart to take a company vehicle to a strip club. It's less smart to take a company vehicle to a strip club in a sketchy area - after work.

I hope your buddy doesn't get into trouble for this. I'm guessing it's a leased company vehicle - and the company should have both collision and comprehensive insurance coverage on it.

The worst part might be simply telling his boss - as he might feel like a total fool while recanting the story. If his boss is a dick - I'm sure he will get scolded for drinking and driving.

If he was on the clock he will most likely get fired. If he was on his own time it depends on what their policy is regarding take home vehicles he could be in trouble depending on the policy.

Might be wise if he wants to keep his job to go in and offer to pay for the loss

No reason to tell anyone it was a strip club. He met some buddies at a bar. Or if the club serves food, he met some buddies for dinner.

Lots of people have company cars that they can use for personal business. Nothing big here.

"Oh, strippers? I did see some girls without clothes on; but I just went for the food."

Art, if you read the post, there is a police report of the incident, insurance company will find out, best to get in front of it as I said hopefully the poor PL can save his job.

If this was like a utility truck, loaded with tools and equipment, you do have to be careful with those. They cannot just be driven where ever you want, as there is strong motivation for people who will break into them anywhere they are not supervised. Can't be in front of your house. It is tough.

Sorry that that happened.

He was not doing anything illegal – AFAIK going to a strip-club is not against the law (sarcasm intended) – shit happens and this can happen to anyone – lots of people use the company vehicle to go everywhere assuming there isn’t some kind of strict company policy against it – he was a victim – same thing could’ve happened outside a McDonalds.
