Add up all The electoral votes of Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, and Carson; and they are still 4 votes behind Trump. WTF?

I'm interested to see if the party can keep trump from winning the nomination. I think it's obviously the right thing to do(the people are dumbasses in this case) but otoh I think trump winning the nomination is a surefire way to get a democrat(clinton) in the white house.

^No wonder. Every. Single. One. of the GOP candidates pretty much sucks. I am not surprised of with the clusterfuck seen so far in the primaries. Is this the best the GOP can do? That's my take. I dunno people like Trump's personality. The single hot button issue for his supporters seems to be immigrants (illegal and legal). Lots of xenophobia and "immigrants are stealing our jobs" or "if you ain't born in American you ain't entitled to no good jobs like us privileged natural citizen folk" battle cries.

Also the other candidates seem to keep talking about "when the field narrows" or "winnowing of the field" yet none are stepping down. Rubio keeps comming in third place? When is *he* going to step down, so Cruz can get Rubios' supporters? Yeah, fat chance. They're all a bunch of narcissists. No one is going to step down until after Ohio and Florida. Because of that . . . Trump will likely run away with the nomination.

The GOP is going to have to make a tough decision either way on Trump. Ryan has just said he'll support whoever the party nominates but won't take side. But some of the other GOP bigwigs are already distancing themselves from Trump. The big question in my mind isn't if Trump will get the delegates, it's if he will be ousted at the convention via back room deals. Can the RNC basically boot him out of the party?

It's funny to me to see this dilemma. It's as if Al Sharpton was winning the Democratic primaries. If it were Sharpton against Trump (or Cruz) in the general election, I'd have a hard time getting excited about voting at all. This is what the GOP faces. TSUCL has a fair amount of conservatives and a few even like Trump...but for all the rest of you guys....will you vote Trump just because you hate Hillary so much? I know you guys won't vote for Hillary (or will you?) so are you just going to stay home?

Chessmaster hit the nail on the head.

Dom, you missed my point. Even if Cruz got everyone else's delegates, he'd still be four behind Trump.

At this point, I would support the Republican Party holding a contested convention to prevent Trump from being the nominee. I think a Trump ticket is a guaranteed Clinton white house and a guaranteed fucked America.

Clinton is significantly to the right of Obama so I don't think conservatives have a lot to fear from her. In fact, if she gets to pick the SC nominee, it will likely be a more palatable choice than anyone Trump may put up. Perhaps that's the thinking in blocking Obama saying they won't vote? Most Republicans know Trump can't win in the general election and contrary to popular opinion, these people aren't stupid. They want a conservative SC and the most likely path to that is either vote on an Obama nominee (thinking he'll pick a moderate at worst) or banking on a Clinton victory.

Rock, before you become so convinced about Trump's chances in the general election, take a look at what just happened in MA. Democrats actually changed their affiliations to Republican so that they could vote for Trump in the Republican primary. He is probably one of the most centrist candidates in the field if you look at his policy positions and he has a very broad base of support among white working class folks who traditionally vote for the Dems. Hillary is not well liked and is trusted even less, which is forcing a lot of Democrats to hold their noses when they vote for her in the primaries. I personally believe that Hillary will get creamed against him, especially once he has several months to focus solely on her.

Or they switched to vote for Trump because he will be easier to beat in the general election.

Rick, Trump is a xenophobic fascist bully, who has threatened everyone from Ryan and congress to even Tom Ricketts, Cub owner who donated millions to the Romney campaign. Imagine if he was head of the FBI....yikes! He MAY be a closet social liberal but that's unclear as he has taken every side in every issue.

He certainly will expand the government if he's serious about his proposals which confuses me as to why any conservative would like him as far as that goes. He and Hillary both would use the military for regime change, but that's never been a popular liberal tenet. Another reason I'm not very gung ho on Hillary. I wish we could have 4 more years of Obama.

"Or they switched to vote for Trump because he will be easier to beat in the general election."

I suspect is true to some degree. Indeed, I have a friend that said he was considering that if the primary is up in the air by the time it gets to his state.

That said, my comment was be careful what you wish for. Trump is the only truly dangerous candidate in this race. Unfortunately, Ted Cruz isn't much better. Up until Bush dropped out I assumed he would hang on and eventually manage to pull off becoming the nominee. Now I'm not sure. Kasich would almost certainly beat Clinton in a general election. I hope he gets the nomination, but he probably won't. Rubio might beat Hillary. And he's now damaging himself by stooping to telling dick jokes and talking about Trump wetting himself. Trump can pull that off. Rubio can't.

Cruz won't beat Hillary. Cruz is slimy and doesn't know which battles to fight. Despite his Princeton/Harvard pedigree I question his intelligence. Of course, just going to an Ivy doesn't mean you're smart. One of the stupidest people I know is a Princeton alum. On the other hand, being accepted at selective university does mean something. I have another Princeton alum "friend" that is an obnoxious elitist prick, but damn if he's not fucking brilliant. Regardless, I'm currently placing Cruz in the "learned sophistry at Princeton and Harvard but isn't actually that smart" category. He'd be a disaster, but not as bad as Trump.

For all the talk of George W Bush is a fascist, Obama is a fascist, etc. we've not had a true fascist. We've had politicians who do all the slimy shit politician do and they've pushed agendas that one half or the other half of the country doesn't like.

Trump might actually be a true fascist.

I'm going to go back to being my normal apolitical self now (technically I'm not apolitical, I'm moderate, but I don't normally care to talk politics on TUSCL).
