TV commercials pushing some boundaries

Has anyone noticed that tv commercials are pushing some serious social boundaries lately? Ikea has a new commercial where a lesbian couple are celebrating their anniversary. Then there's some mattress company (i forget the name) and they're talking about how their mattresses are perfect for singles, couples or even three if that's your lifestyle. When these came on in prime time tv hours we just looked at each other with an oh shit look. Personally, we have absolutely no issues with anything consensual. Once you hit 18 you do you. We might even like to watch or join you. I just wonder about any backlash these companies may get? A lesbian couple I don't see as TOO controversial anymore. You've still got the older generation who may catch the very end and realize it's lesbians and think something bad about ikea but for the most part I think that one will go in one ear and out the other for most people. The mattress commercial really made me go "WOW". Promoting your product on national tv by using threesomes and polyamory as a selling point? I don't think most of the country is quite ready for that yet but it may definitely get people talking about their product even though I can't remember their name. Anyone else noticed these?

No I have not noticed this, but it sounds interesting. I know that in Europe they advertise condoms in provocative ways, ways which actually encourage sex. They could never do that here, not for general audiences. SJG [view link] Jefferson Airplane [view link]

^^^^ since he saw that commercial, Motörhead has been hanging out in the ikea cafeteria eating Swedish meatballs trying to pick up some trim.

Sea,I grew up in an era where we didn't even lock our doors at [view link] was never an issue for a neighbor to just walk right in.Look,I have no problem with gay or lesbian couples. What I do have a problem with is that fucking far left.Nobody has to work for anything anymore. Case in point ,those little White Hispanics in the Trump [view link] do you think their lives will end?A shot to the head?A heroin overdose?Where the fuck were their parents. They will never have gainful employment for the rest of their lives.

I don't think they're 'pushing' boundaries at all. Rather they are the reaction after the fact to a changed society.

Ikea is a Swedish company, and Scandinavia runs socially liberal. Also, people buy way more furniture in their 30s and 40s than 60s. Gen X and millenials yawn at the stuff that makes even boomers blush.

I'm with Rockstar, it's underwhelming. Especially when you consider who Ikea is targeting.

I never noticed it. However I tend not to notice very many commercials unless there is a hot girl in a bikini. Now if they put two hot lesbians in bikinis in the commercial, I would remember it if I saw it.

I pretty much only watch commercials during the super bowl. And in you tube videos.

Needless to say I definitely notice it, but even I am rather *yawn* about it by now.

I don't pay attention to commercials but I mostly watch the classic stations and the Simpsons so I don't see those commercials. The classic stations mostly have commercials with life insurance, funerals, hovercraft, that stair thing and diapers.

Yeah, we don't watch commercials at all. It just so happened we were watching something in real time and couldn't fast fwd through the commercials. I agree that the subject matter has no effect on me and the ikea one really was a yawner based on what yall have said where the company is based and who they really target. But the threesome/polyamorous selling point for the mattress did make me stop and wonder what kind of backlash they may get

A relatively recent Pop Tart commercial caught my eye. Peanut Butter and Jelly (Dad and Mom, respectively) are admiring their new bundle of joy in the maternity ward. A nurse comes in and decides the kid would make a good snack. While we don't see the feasting, Dad pounds on the window, "NOOOOO!" Mom says, "Oh damn." It just caught me as odd that a commercial that's pretty much Saturday-morning fare would use the word "damn."

The recent commecial that caught my eye (it was played over and over during the baseball playoffs) was a Viagra commericial featuring this really smokin' hot woman wearing a blue football jersey. I thought she looked to be in her late 30's. 1. It my wife was that uber hot, I wouldn't need no boner pill 2. Are guys in their 30's really taking ED drugs?

@PhantomGerk- I've also seen that pop tarts commercial and the mom pop tart actually says "oh jammit". A pun on the jam aspect, I guess. They got by the censors with that one.

Hardee's must be targeting me but somehow I missed this one. [view link] Apparently the YouTube censors must be run by someone running the ISIS campaign restricting videos by age that have already shown on tv.

Sclvr5005, guess the brain was filling in what it was expecting. I listened a little more carefully to the commercial tonight and, yep, I heard "Oh, jammit."

How about last year's Kmart commercial where they said "I shipped my pants". Not offensive but sounded different. [view link] Or the other commercial with the sexy men playing jingle bells in their pants. [view link]
