Most of the time lighting in SCs and in VIP is fairly low and sometimes plain dark; which can be a good thing for some hanky-panky on the down-lo.
I'm def a visual guy and even if I'm fucking in VIP I still want to be able to see the dancer well b/c I get really turned on by looking. So it kinda frustrates me sometimes when in a booth or VIP and it's very dark to where I can barely make out the dancer.
Assuming that better lighting does not affect mileage; do you dislike low lighting in VIP; prefer low lighting; or don't care as long as your dick is in her mouth :)

I'm like you in this regard; visuals are a big deal. I would rather be able to see her.
Yeah - good lighting is critical especially with the type of dancers I like :)
Fortunately, most strip clubs around here seem to offer both conditions. Often, around the bar, the lighting is much better, while off in the lap dance areas, it's darker. For lap dances, I don't mind this as much, as I'm just groping and talking. VIP rooms tend to be better lit as well, almost as good as the bar.
I usually tell the dancer to turn up the lights so I can see her if that's possible. Most seem surprised by the request but comply. We can always turn the lights down towards the evd if that's necessary.
