Why are a large portion of TV and Cable shows devoted to queers

Monday, January 27, 2014 6:20 AM
I was surfing the satellite channels the other day and another "new" HBO show was starting and I read the description. It had a lengthy description but it boiled down to fags looking for dates and sex. This got me to thinking that while personally do not give a crap about where anyone puts their dick or tongue and I have friends and acquaintances that are Gay, Lesbian and Bi-sexual. I was struck by the shear number of shows that are made for and about the homosexual life style. The percentage of homosexuals world wide is small but the shear number shows dedicated to homosexuality or depict a homosexual or homosexual couple in a "regular" show makes it look like homosexuals are 1/2 the population Why does Holly Weed try to present this as a normal. I am quite tired of politicians, academics and the media telling me that there is something wrong with me because I do not want to be bi-sexual or homosexual and object to children being indoctrinated with multi-sexuality in the schools.

because homosexuality is larger than the numbers make it. TV is just trying to make it normal because too many people are scared to come out of the closet???

I think it's just fashionable for people to "prove" what good, tolerant, progressive people they are by sympathizing with them.

No one is forcing you to watch these shows. Perhaps you would be happier in Russia where Putin is outlawing the things you object to.

Change the fucking channel you moron. Don't bring your homophobic shit here.

I thought TV devoted too much time to Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Storage Wars, Alaska everything, Swamp everything, Duck Dynasty, etc, etc.

Large portion? Define it. Judging from your off topic post history I think you're full of shit. You are nothing but a hateful old bastard who can't handle people who don't live like or believe in what you do. You have LGBT friends? lmao. Tiredshitfuck, its hard enough to believe you have any friends at all, let alone any that don't follow your beliefs. Oh wait, I'll bet you have black and liberal friends too. LMAO

Only a fucking retard uses the term homophobic, which is in and of itself hate speech. TV devotes too much time to every miniscule topic with all the buying and flipping houses, reality shows, fishing shows and homosexuals, despite being 3% of the population are just another tv niche. Lastly, Progressives have overrun the media and television so their pet issues are made to seem like major issues when in fact they are not.

My guess is that's solely to piss off militant straights. It's good for them, makes them think. And if they have heart attacks because of it, then it's good for the *rest* of us, because we won't have to deal with their fucking "woe is me, I'm surrounded by gay propaganda" bullshit.

I did change the channel. Just posing a question and you all take it personally. I personally do not care who does what to whom. But do not ask me to give you special treatment because you are gay or lesbian. At work I do not want to know about your personal life and I, in turn, will not tell you about mine. I do not socialize at work or with people I work with therefore sexual preference does not come up. Putin is a turd. The rants that come out of his mouth are no surprise considering the history of thuggish Russian leaders of the last millennia .

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" was the only gay show I've watched. Pretty funny.

Same reason anything else is on TV as much as it is: profit motive. People choose to watch it, advertisers want to sell them stuff, and broadcasters want to attract advertisers. So direct your rage at capitalism.

I got tired of paying for shows that I never watch and have canceled my TV service entirely. I do subscribe to Netflix and get my news, etc off of the internet.

American TV has always had gay people even if it was only obvious to the non-homophobic. Famous Gay People On American Television: Bugs Bunny Paul Lynde Liberace Rock Hudson Dolly Parton George Lindsey Gilligan (not Bob Denver) Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble Jughead Jones I don't see anything different today except it's less subtle.

Most people who complain about shit like this do so because of their latent tendencies.

Like others have said, it's the new "in" thing until something else comes along. HBO doesn't have to answer to the FCC or whatever, so they can make shows harder homosexual than they can be TV (which always elicits a news release from on of the orgs found here [view link]). HBO answers to the almighty dollar of it's subscribers, not to anyone else. Also, the word homophobic is not hate speech: homophobia |ˌhōməˈfōbēə| noun an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people. That said, I don't watch to much HBO anymore either and no network tv at all.

HBO has always tried to be edgy and have never skirted around homosexuality. Look at OZ or even the Sopranos (the former considerably more than the latter). Showtime did 'Queer as Folk' years ago, so it's not like this is a new concept. I also think your numbers are way off. I've seen studies suggest that as much as 10% of the population is homosexual (openly or otherwise). I doubt even 2% of new shows put a focus on homosexuality relationships.

The Jestie-Girl spaketh thus: ". I've seen studies suggest that as much as 10% of the population is homosexual (openly or otherwise)." Now why am I not too surprised that jestie has intimate familiarity with studies on homosexuals?

No! No! No! A thousand times no. Gilligan gay? My favorite TV show of all-time? No evidence he was gay. He was shy and awkward around girls, but he was not gay!!! I always though the Professer might be a homo, but not Gilligan.

....and not Bugs either. He was a cross-dresser, but that doesn't always correlate with being gay. He was just *stylish*

TT -- I honestly don't know what issue you can possibly have with this. I can almost guarantee that you could find shows focused on any range of topics. Most of them are crap -- the Boss says, there's 57 channels and nothin' on... [view link] But there are actually something like 257 channels (and nothin' on). Why are crappy shows about gay folk worse than crappy shows about catchin' catfish with your bare hands? If I don't want to watch something I change the channel. If something REALLY offended me (say a pro-genocide program) I might consider joining a boycott. Nothing has offended me that much. Turn of the TV and go to the club. Or find some groovy porn on the computer and fap away. Your choice dude!

And rockstar-dude, I think Thurston Howell III was also gay. Lovey was just a beard. And Bugs...totally gay! Yosemite Sam too!

I guess we can apply the same logic too Dugly's (claimed) intimate familiarity with mental disorders.

Maybe sometime I should make notes if I ever watch hbo or Cinemax anymore. I might be wasting my money paying for those. Of course it wouldn't be the first time I spent money without getting much out of it. The drink I bought a dancer the other night didn't seem worth it. She drank it in less than a few seconds too.

When Johnny Depp was being tested for the Captain Jack Sparrow role, he was called into a meeting with a Disney higher up, who said he was afraid that Depp was playing Sparrow as a homosexual and that wouldn't do. Depp replied, "Yes, he is gay. ALL my characters are gay." He still got the part. Gilligan is way beyond "awkward" around girls. Howell is NOT gay, but the professor might be. Bugs kisses men all the time; he's at least bi.

Barney Fife was gay. I know he was doing it with Gomer. This thread is just plain silly.
