I think the clean shaven (or waxed) look is just one of those evolving fashion trends that will go back and forth. I remember that in the '70s most of the magazines featured women with rather generous bush. As swimsuit styles got skimpier a trim became more and more necessary. I also know that the "porn culture" has been getting more and more mainstreamed or absorbed into society in general. The porn stars started the extreme trims to make sure the goods were clearly visible as opposed to hidden behind a thick bush.

The times are changing. In my very unscientific poll I've found that younger women are more likely to shave.
