off topic Did Obama get put in the doghouse?

Just look at these pictures in the link.
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thre…

Notice the look on Obama's face when he is chatting and flirting with the blond girl. Then look at his wife. Look at the other pics. Someone isn't happy. lol

Then Mrs Obama switches seats and no one looks happy. Doghouse time?

I'm not so sure. They did switch seats for some reason.

What I found most amazing was the willingness of red meat Conservative British Prime Minister Cameron to cavort with such noted lefties as the USA President and the Danish Prime Minister.

    Strange bedfellows, indeed.

Perhaps Mrs. Obama's glum face was expressing her distaste for this frivolity taking place during a solemn state funeral?

Art my man, you've been reading too many posts from the TUSCL libertarian wing if you think Obama is actually a lefty. The US Democratic Party just isn't that different from the Republicans. We have seen the growth of the Tea party wing and they are different, but those guys are nuts. I also don't think of Cameron as a red meat conservative. The whole Notting Hill set would probably be called leftists by Fox News if they were US politicians.

OK with Thoring-Schmidt being labeled a lefty, but Denmark is a more liberal country than the US. Besides, you can tell that Thoring-Schmidt was probably a hottie 20 years ago. For a world leader she ain't bad. Cameron and Obama were probably thinkin "maybe this could lead to some hot three way action". Could explain why Michelle was looking pissed. She is thinking "HELL NO, my husband is NOT gonna get no Scandinavian interracial action..."

Seriously though...I find the Obama hate painfully stupid. Except for a few folks like Rand Paul the Republicans aren't criticizing real issues like the surveillance state. That is because the Republicans want to use it when they take office. The real liberals in America lost in '80 and haven't been heard from since. Obama my be a little to the left of the three Republicans and the centrist Democrat the preceded him, but that's a relative thing. The dude ain't that different from Nixon, who wasn't bad if you could overlook the whole unethical, vindictive, paranoid nutjob thing he had going.

Since the news isn't willing to criticize the growth of the "national security state" we get gotcha bullshit like Obama takes a selfie or Bush is a moron who didn't react to 9/11 when he's reading "My Pet Goat". This whole selfie thing, which was done at an event more akin to a wake than a state funeral, is bullshit compared to the real threats to freedom. Problem there is that voting against the Democrats won't CHANGE anything. American democracy is holding on by a thread my friends, and the problems go back way further than Obama.

The idea that Obama isn't a leftist is inane, but not as silly as the idea he's close to Nixon. I find support for Obama to be so bizzarre its beyond painful. If he were white he'd be the weekend night manager at 7/11 somewhere. If you take out winning elections and being appointed to things you find that his list of real accomplishments would fit on a match head. Community organizer who tried to force a factory to reopen and hire people? Zero success. Only law review editor in the history of American law schools to be incapable of publishing any articles. I lead the imbecile 2-0 in law review articles published. No published writings as a professor. No laws authored as a State Senator. No laws authored as a Federal Senator. Every campaign promise was a lie, to the extent that while he takes credit for removing troops from Iraq, he actually left them there until the date Bush chose in 2007. far more soldiers have died in Afghanistan on his watch than Bush's and now he wants us to stay for another ten years. While I disagree with much of the Tea Party's tactics I would point out that they all ran on doing exactly what they are doing now so I commend them for at least doing what they said they would, which is unique in politics. Simple fact is that in 25 100% of all Federal Tax revenues will go to debt service and that means no military, roads, welfare, Medicaid, medicare, social security etc. and yet people like Obama suggest we spend and tax more.

@zipman68. Yes I agree. There is no socialist or communist party in the US. The Dems are just left of center while the GOP is just right of center. It's the anarchists in the Tea Party wing that are far right, but there's no wing of the Democratic party that's nearly that far left.

America is a very conservative country compared with Western Europe.

“… Perhaps Mrs. Obama's glum face was expressing her distaste for this frivolity taking place during a solemn state funeral …”

Yeah – I agree – it seems improper for those two to be hamming it up while at a funeral.

@rockstar666 -- I don't know why people can't see what you're saying. People have been indoctrinated in America to view positions that were centrist or even center right a bit over a generation ago as far left.

@skibum609 -- perhaps you could defend your position with actual data as opposed to assertions that a different perspective is inane. The problem is that you confound two things -- efficacy vs position. One can be ineffective or effective at implementing one's policies but that doesn't speak to the nature of those policies.

Therefore, complaining about the surge in Afganistan is pointless. If the question is "were Obama's Afganistan policies a good idea?" The answer was no. But that makes it bad policy (or badly executed policy) but not leftist policy. Indeed, the stated position of the actual American left has been "bring the troops home". So Obama isn't being a leftist there. To be fair, Nixon prolonged the Vietnam conflict. He was, after all, an amoral Machiavellian asshole. But big picture is that Obama's Afgan policy is not leftist.

On domestic policy I'll just say EPA, clean air act, ending the draft, the list goes on. Nixon was fundamentally a Keynesian -- government DOES creat jobs in Nixonland. Comprehensive health care (admittedly killed by Teddy Kennedy, so points to skibum, Nixon was more conservative than Teddy Kennedy...but that really wasn't your point now, was it?). Nixon even considered minimum guaranteed income. Admittedly that was not an actual policy initiative. But can anybody imagine Obama suggesting minimum guaranteed income? Maybe he'd like it -- who the fuck knows? -- but no way would he suggest it.

I could summon a similar list from memory for foreign policy, but I'll just wait to see if skibum actually knows anything about policy issues in a historical context.

To be fair, some of Nixon's positions were no doubt opportunistic. Dude was a power hungry nutjob. He was relatively conservative for his time and a bit mercurial. But on policy he was to the left of Reagan (who he considered to be a know nothing), Bush I (as he governed in the Oval Office), W, and even Clinton. That reflects our country's drift to the right. If all you meant is that Obama is fairly leftist for a successful modern American politician you have a case. But leftist? Not in any meaningful way (i.e., relative to modern [last 50 years] US presidents or politicians in other developed countries).

@farmerart “Perhaps Mrs. Obama's glum face was expressing her distaste for this frivolity taking place during a solemn state funeral?”

that was exactly what i thought. maybe michelle took offense at obama’s frivolity because she actually respected Mandela for EARNING the Nobel Peace Prize as opposed to obama’s cereal box prize version. or maybe she was embarrassed by the stark contrast between the “spent decades in prison Marxist” Mandela was compared to the “sipped fair-trade latte on Harvard Square Marxist” obama is and the opposite legacies they will both have.

on a side note the fake interpreter for the deaf was funny as shit. i suspect that he just might be the real life zipman68. clearly there is no need to be qualified to have a skilled job in a leftist utopia.
