Were lap dances in Detroit/Flint area full contact in 1996?

Hello,

It seems to me that lap dances have become more liberal as the years go by. First they started off as table dances, then Air Dances, then one way contact(stripper can touch you but you sat on your hands), then came Full Contact Lap Dances!

What was the lap dance scene in the mid to late 90's in Detroit/Flint area of Michigan? I am writing a paper on this and need information.
Thank you!

They were full on in that era but the extras really didn't start UNTIL around 2002.

If you're writing a paper on LD mileage, where the hell do you go to school? What kind of class are you taking?

I wasn't going very often in the late 90s but I mostly remember there only being table dances. Some clubs, like the one where Pantheon is now (forget what it was called then) didn't have a separate area for lap dances. Ypsi Deja Vu had an area but it was open to the main room with no curtains. Leggs (where John's Hot Spot is now) had a separate area, not visible from the main club, but it was small, communal, crowded, and had no privacy. I went to BT's a couple times but don't remember what it was like.

Contact was poor by today's standards. You'd get grind, but often no touching the girl, depending on the girl. I'm pretty sure there were no extras available except maybe in the private champagne rooms, which I never visited.

Thank you for the title of the book. I will check that out. I am a college student studying Sociology. One of the topics we are talking about is marriage, infidelity, prostitution and strip clubs in America. I am doing a paper about strip clubs. This is why I need information on lap dances. I picked the Detroit area since they are considered the KING of strip clubs in the Midwest.

When you say full contact lap dances this means touching breasts were allowed, correct?

Also, when did "motor boarding" become popular in strip clubs in Detroit?

Just some ideas you might want to explore in your paper: one doesn't have to go far from Detroit and things dramatically change.

I go to clubs in both Detroit and the west side of Michigan. Even if you go to clubs just an hour or two away in towns like Lansing, Kalamazoo, or Grand Rapids, the dances change. Why is the easy (and usually cheap) availability of "extras" fairly localized.

Is it the dreadful Detroit economy? The close proximity to Canada where escorts are legal. Or what other reasons? I don't know the scope of your paper, but just something to consider.

motorhead, Thank you for your response. What do you mean about the dances changing? Are you talking about now or back in the mid 1990's? Are strip clubs less contact than strip clubs in or near Detroit? Do you have any knowledge of what was allowed in a "standard" lap dance in the late 90's?

In my paper, I am trying to tie in what is considered infidelity in marriages?

It would be great if I could get some real life answers from men who are married and go to strip clubs.

Do you feel lap dances are cheating on your wife? If not, please explain why.

Thank you so much. This paper will be wonderful. I will have REAL feedback from REAL people.

Any information is appreciated. I am comparing the mid to late 90's to 2013. I am trying to make a timeline on how things have changed in strip clubs and why things are changing. What is acceptable now during a lap dance to what was not acceptable back in the mid to late 1990's.

Jr., where are you going to school and what class is this for? Are you a graduate student, a senior or what? Unless you are a senior or a grad you are not qualified to write such a paper and are just yanking our chains. Go do some research in a field you may know something about such as "hooking up" in campus dorms.

@Otto22: What qualifies you to make a determination on the OP's qualifications? Do you know him outside of TUSCL, or have more information than is obvious from his postings here?

Or are you just mouthing off?

@Fred-Although not about recent history, Thaddeus Russell has a book about outlaw culture in America and prostitution is well represented. What's the name of that book, dammit.

I was there in 1995-96. This was before Flight Club, Penthouse, etc. At Trumpps, BT's, Playhouse and Landing Strip, full contact dances were the norm, except when frequent crackdowns put a chill on things.

I especially remember how a big raid at Trumpps in early '96 interrupted the fun all over town for months. That made me head to Lansing and Flint clubs, where the table dances and stage action were so much better. Detroit clubs have always been pretty boring out on the floor.

    @chandler,

Thank you for sharing. That is great info that I can use in my research paper.

What do you mean about strip clubs getting crackdowns? Did they get in trouble for Full Contact Lap Dances or did they get in trouble for extras? What year did Flight Club open?
When the crackdowns happened and you went to Lansing and Flint were full contact lap dances allowed in those strip clubs?

Do you know what year full contact lap dances started in the Detroit/Lansing/Flint area?

Thank you so much. This information will be valuable for my paper. Do you mind if I use your screen name and quote what you said in my paper?

Fred thats not much of a review you did for crazy rock. Its just opinons on what you think about strip clubs. If your paper is anything like that review your in trouble.
