  I'm with Clubber - How does a man whose mother is from Kansas(white) and father is Kenyan (black) immediately qualify as "black?" At the very least, he's mixed ethnicity. In no other instance do we call the offspring of two ethnic groups, the presumed minority of those two groups (e.g., white and Japanese, white and Indian, etc.). If we must categorize, we'll say mixed ancestory. Why not for Obama?

  Clubber - he is considered black because of the darkness of his skin and the texture of his hair. I see references to the "nigger" in the white house or the "towel head president "all the time. If he looked caucasian in skin color and hair texture and his name was still Barak Obama you wouldn't see the vitrol you see right now towards him. I'm black and my ex-wife is white and we have a daughter with red hair and light skin (and yes she is mine, she looks like me). We also have a daughter with dark hair and dark skin so it is possible.

  rh, Likely that is the reason, skin color, but I know many in South Florida and are NOT black, but have very dark skin. I will agree that is somewhat true, but most of of what causes it is his ideology! Few in the US what this country destroyed. Uninformed voters are a major problem.

When slavery was still practiced in the south, *any* degree of Negro blood was deemed to make one a Negro. I suspect it was primarily a property thing. A "white" bastard had a tenuous claim to a landowner's inheritance, and extending that to the many "black" bastards fathered by southern slave owners would have been...somewhat less than completely palatable to them. So classifying half, and less, "black" people as black kept them "where they belonged," i.e. in the slave pen. I'm with you though, it's silly. Allegedly Tiger Woods didn't consider himself "black" at one point, but "Asian". Not sure if that's true or not, but he supposedly got some serious grief from some black people because of the fact that he didn't think of himself as "black".

  hmmm, I had one dancer see me naked and she looked scared and then said I must be half black. Obama is part white. Is there really a gene test to determine if any one of us is a pure race?
