Clubs Scanning Your Driver's License

sinclair
Strip Club Nation
Would you go to a strip club where the staff scans your driver's license or other id into a computer upon entrance to the club? What types of concerns would you have with a club collecting personal information?

This seems to be an emerging trend at gentlemen's clubs. Just in a couple months I have found three clubs doing this. Interestingly, one club scanning ids into their computer is in the Top 10! It takes only a split second for the scanning device to take a picture of the driver's license, blow it up in size, and enter it into a database. It happens so quick you might not even notice.

That's already been discussed. Then again, could be imagining things.

True, steve, but life can be a sequence of any events. I'll reaffirm what most of us have said to a club that does this. NO !!!, I'll take my business elsewhere.

I will show an ID, but as soon as they want to scan it, I'm gone.

That is a deal breaker. I have nothing to hide but that is getting too personal.

Been discussed before. And the ID info is none of the club's business.

Exactly what Shadowcat said.

I usually try to pay cash, but have used credit cards before. Often they will ask for a DL or some (like the rhino) will even ask for a thumbprint. I tell them their card holder says you are only required to sign and their is no way I'm providing them the other reason - privacy concerns. They make a bunch of bluster sometimes call over managers but then always back down. Now I know what you are thinking - Dougster wins again! That is true, but who needs the drama so after that I'll just try to remember to bring ample cash next time. (Besides who needs their stupid 10% fees?)

Now if they ask to see ID at the door I'll show it, but if they were scanning it I would just find another club or call up an escort. I would then write a review mentioning this do others could avoid it. (Even though I know ricky-boy would mention it, out of context, and say I reviewed a club I never went inside of.)

I hope others here will warn if clubs like this. It's completely appalling how little respect fir privacy there is these days and the corporate world (eg google, facebook) are just as bad as the government. Definitely time to fight back!

The two best clubs near me scan the DL. But recent events mean I won't be back there any time soon. My new fave from one of those clubs has proposed OTC, and I'm planning to engage in that soon. Presuming all goes well, that's more mileage for me, more money for her, and nothing for the greedy, privacy-invading clubs.

I have to agree with Doug.

It seems there should be a liitle common sense when asking for ID's. Shit, I know I'm pretty good looking, but still, I know I look like I'm 50 or certainly 40's. So why do I need to show proof of age at a club or buying some beer at Kroger. No way do I wanted my ID put in database.

Heck, when I run for Congress next term, some reporter is going to label me as "a person who frequents strip clubs"

Add apple to the above list of companies with appalling privacy policies.
And the police were recently proposing to require gps in everyone's car that they could track and we won't even mention the IRS.
Scary shit!

Thankfully I've never dealt with that bullshit.

Using a Credit Card in a club Dougster? NOT too smart! LOL

Vanity in Columbus used to scan IDs for a "membership" which allowed BYOB. They are no longer BYOB and no longer require a membership so you just have to show ID.

maybe TUSCL should have a check box for "scans ID for entry". It would help us avoid these clubs easier without having to read a review to find out. Not every review will mention it, especially the locals who are used to it.

@alucard: agree with you again. There's the 10% fee for one, and then local cops used CC records to track down customers to interview during the crackdown on Rick's and Co... cash is always best.

samsung1, I agree there should be a checkbox on club pages to denote this. Even at some places where this type of thing goes on, guys might not be aware it is going on because it happens so quick and the computer/scanner might not be in eyesight. The Top 10 club that does this is Kappa Kabanna.

Thankfully I believe this would be illegal over here.

I guess I'm in the minority but I have little issue with this. I do it at grocery stores, casino's, applying for CC's and jobs...

Until someone convinces me they're doing anything other than trying to cover their ass, I don't have an issue with it.

Part of this has to do with jurisdictions that tell clubs if they let in someone with a fake ID they can be liable for lawsuit or be fined or lose their liquor license, effectively forcing the clubs to get scanners to verify IDs.

Jestie? Wha ththt is wrong with you? It's "casinos " not "casino's

jack0505, these aren't the small verifiers that check whether the id is fake or real that you see at bars in a college town. I actually saw a picture of my id on their computer screen about 10"x6" that remained after I was given my driver's license back.

Remember when dougsie got mad because I mocked his typos? I do.

This is the society we live in, everyone has to go to extremes to make sure they A. are protected from lawsuits and B. can collect what they are owed.

Hes their been a day in his life jestie hasn't been mad? Doubt it. He likes the feeling so interprets everything in a way to justify anger. Basic logic and everything else be damned. Guy is a textbook passive-aggressive. Too funny!

So what are the names of some of these clubs? Which is in the top 10?

So I know which ones not to waste my time with. Can't think of any valid reason why they'd need proof of my identity just to ENTER the club.

Just "showing" ID to go in - fine, no prob, even do the check-if-authentic thing. Beyond that, no, not just to go in the door. Even if you don't hit "save", if it showed up onscreen it means it has gone through disk cache and it will stay there until overwritten or deliberately wiped.

I can see the recording of the ID info for credit card in the sense of preventing the proverbial "No I did not run a $150,000 tab" situation, but that one is on the customer's head.

Would you let a different kind of club scan your ID? A movie theater?

I don't want to be scanned anywhere, just like I don't want to "check in" or be tagged on facebook. I've got nothing to hide, I make no secret of my fondness for strip clubs or other nightclubs but I don't like the idea of someone keeping score.

Scanning / checking ID doesn't help justify a credit card charge. It is against the rules of the credit card companies to require ID for credit card sales.

Jack is absolutely right. And it 's too bad so many customers like jestie and tittybrain just bend right over for them. If they didn't the practice would stop really fuckin' fast. (Of course jestie and titty sure like the bent over position to begin with, so may have absolutely nothing to do with credit cards.)
