Zac Efron endured an "awkward" telephone call with his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens this weekend when the actor asked her permission to go to a strip club.
The clean-cut Disney star hit headlines this week when it was revealed he spent Sunday night surrounded by semi-naked women at a raunchy bar in New York City.
Efron admits he was nervous about calling his longtime partner and High School Musical co-star Hudgens to tell her about his planned outing, and he was relieved when the actress gave him permission to go.
He tells U.S. talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "The hardest thing was calling your girlfriend before. That's the awkward part. How do you even start that conversation without feeling like a total a**hole? (But) she was fine with it."
And Efron reveals the Manhattan club didn't quite live up to his expectations. He adds, "I had this image of what it would be like... I've heard a lot about these places, mostly from rap music. They're supposed to be pretty reputable, right? I envisioned myself on a nice couch, stunna (sic) shades, like T-Pain and Usher, you know, making it rain money. And it just wasn't like that that."

What Usher songs are about strip clubs? I know about T-pain but not Usher.
This probably is some publicity stunt to help transform his career from doing Disney movies to doing more mainstream R rated movies.

Publicity stunt. Trying to mature out of Disney. But seriously, an NYC club isn't going to be like anything you hear in rap music. Go to a real club
