City Rejects Gentlemen's Club

Paper Moon had been planning to open a new club in Falls Church, VA, a DC suburb. The local zoning board disapproved their request. Apparently they were shocked, shocked to find that naked women would be dancing there.

“The Falls Church Zoning Administrator has refused to make a “gentlemen's agreement” to allow the “Paper Moon Gentlemen's Club” to locate at the Eden Center.”

http://fallschurchtimes.com/2009/09/01/d…

Kinda of reminds me of that classic scene from Casablanca –

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.
[aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once

Um, "Paper Moon" is the biggest rip-off since about 3,000 B.C. ...

But don't let my biased opinion interfere with your desire to spend all of your money! I would be inclined to bet though the odds to be better than 50-50 Snoop Dog would shoot the place up due to it's terrible "value", imho.

Well I'm shocked, shocked that a new strip club would be barred by a city with "church" in it's name.

Not only "Church" in its name, but actually named for a CHURCH. This is an independent city in Virginia that had a SEGREGATION ordinance on its books until 1999. No surprise.

Until this thread opened, i did not even know there was a chain called "Paper Moon". Have never been to any SC in any of the cities that Paper Moon operates in. They are limited to the Southeast sector of USA - must go only to cities that don't attract GOOD strip clubs.

Let's all congregate in Falls Church and hold a massive pro-strip-club rally. Make all our wives & SOs proud of us.

    arbeeguy,
I am so there. I'm sure it will make my employer proud as well.

CT - guess I am just a glutton for punishment.
At least I would have my choice of which club to be ripped off in

I wonder how things would be if the owners/management of paper moon showed up to the sunday service and started contributing large amounts of "donations" to the church. Surely they would be able to smooth things over but I bet the strip club management is too cheap to invest in this kind of tactic.

if you think this is bad...the entire state of ohio bans casinos from operating. They have over 100 strip clubs but ban casinos! The only gambling I know of is if you take the river boat and that is right on the border of kentucky/ohio.

I was surprised (shocked?) that owners/management thought they could get this through. The only way they were able to open their Springfield (VA) club was by buying an old club so they could be grandfathered on the zoning.

Steve, a little more and I'll start a fund to get you off to a better place & away from Paper Moon!

After visiting the Paper Moon in Richmond, VA , and being far too familiar with VA SC regulations; I wasn't expecting much when I stumbled across the Springfield Paper Moon. Let me say I was Shocked, Shocked to find I could get a LD with 2 way contact (albeit with the dancer wearing far too much clothes). Then I was Shocked, Shocked to find out what the LD costs, $60 or $30 if you hold out for the two for ones they run regularly. (See CTQWERTY's review for an excellent summary.)

On the other hand, there isn't a LD to be had within an hour's drive of the place (to my knowledge anyway, PLEASE PM me if you know better), so I would think in this case demand exceeds supply. I was looking forward to the second club opening, but not very optimistic it would go through. Oh well, I will have to continue to choose between the long drive to Showcase Theater or even Baltimore and the short hop to the Paper Moon. steve229, I'll join you and arbeeguy on the picket line.

One last observation on the PM, posts here and the PM website say they strictly enforce the dress code, yet you can't find it on the website. I didn't even get an answer from the doorman on what the code was other than they wanted to make it even stricter. And the bathroom attendant is the unfriendliest ever.

The dress code in a lot of these places is if they don't like the way you look, or just don't like you, and they'll find a way to turn you back. Others are more straightforward.

At all the Men's Club locations (I've been to three of them now) they insist on collared shirts. At the one in Charlotte I even got walked back to a coat room where they had an entire rack of loaner shirts. They insisted they were clean and I had no reason to doubt them, but I carry an extra shirt in the car just in case so on it went...

The Paper Moon and other nearby lap spots to DC has come up before. I'll see if I can't dig up my last answer and put a link to it. OK. Found it on Google. http://www.tuscl.net/dt.php?DID=79384. Turns out it only has one of the two I was thinking of, so Fuego in Bladensburg is the other. If for some reason you're not OK with black dancers (Irving's) or latina dancers (Fuego, but getting more like Irving's) don't go to either and stick with Showcase.

Thanks for the tip on the nearby clubs, wallanon. BTW, you are my new hero, over 50 reviews this year alone! I always wear a collared shirt to clubs and never wear a hat and I don't wear jeans either (there was a thread about what to wear a couple of weeks ago). I have been told to tuck in my shirt on occasion, Thee Doll House in North Myrtle is one. I have nothing against any ethnicity in dancers, but I do have a strong preference for blondes. I will say Vanity was one fantastic Latina dancer, used to work at Showcase, rumor is she's now at Scores in Baltimore. I miss her.

One last thought, if it weren't for this site, I don't think I would have found Showcase, Muchas Gracias a TUSCL!

I enjoyed reading the reviews on paper moon. I agree with CTQWERTY that escorting is probably the way things get done down there. $60 for a fully clothed lap dance is a rip off.

Thanks, Scoops. Although I wish there was an edit feature to adjust one's own work. My review on Paper Moon should say "And if one pays $100 they can have the same dance topless". Of couse since most guys wait for the 2-for-1 special, the price drops to $50 but you're locked into a two song purchase, which really sucks if you learn during the first dance, well, that it's lame...

I'm thinking we need to take up a fund to charter a bus bound for The Hip Hugger in Kokomo, IN. We'll park it outside of The Paper Moon in Springfield, VA., for starters. Then have it stop in Columbus, OH., at The Centerfold Club to pick up more refugees. We'll finally have it drop off at The Hugger for some true adult day care (and I mean the day shift at The Hugger!) I have a feeling those who've frequented Paper Moon and Centerfold Club will NEVER want to leave.

Vanity? Is that the one that got wrapped up in the whole Phelps Fiasco? I heard the girl was originally from Showcase before she skipped up into the city. Anyhow, to quote a little green goblin, "Reviews do not make one great".

Paper Moon isn't the greatest club ever to be sure. But no club is ever as good as someone thinks it is (or as bad). When I was there it wasn't an issue to get the girl to flip off her top on the 2 for $60 and it was a heckuva dance. Comparable to a Players Club dance at the same price if I paid the full $30 a dance there.

No doubt it's possible to have a shitty time at Paper Moon, but there's a lot worse. Compared to the other clubs around DC it's golden. The drink prices are out of hand, though.

Wallanon, I just took a look through your reviews (that's a lot!) If my attention stayed focused long enough, I believe you haven't been to a club in Detroit or Indiana, right? I'd be curious to hear your opinion of Paper Moon after a visit to The Hugger.

It's possible at some point I would have a reason to go to either place, and I'd put Hip Hugger on my list if near Indianapolis.

If you want an easier way to scan the clubs I've seen in last few years, the list is here (http://www.tuscl.net/b.php?AID=149) minus a dozen clubs I've yet to add. Paper Moon is #67 out of 300 or so, but it'll probably move down a bit once I get more of the Providence and Charlotte clubs in. At this point, though, odds are a visit to any one club won't change my impression of another that much. Each one is different.

Hip Hugger/Kokomo is one hour north of Indy. Literally one can alternate between Brad's Brass in Indy and Hugger in Kokomo whenever the other becomes boring and/or stale. To just "stick it out" until a shift change is the wrong way to go, imo. I think it likely a visit to both would push Paper Moon down to #69 on your list, to say the least.

I never got around to doing my review of Paper Moon in Springfield, but there was a dancer there that was amazing. Hear me out. I'm watching the dance of shame, i.e. the girls milling about on stage who do not get any takers for the 2 for ones and I see a tall, skinny blonde (I like blondes) with a great rack that I assume is fake. The dancer at my table tells me they are real (not a lie any dancer would ever tell). Now I'm really interested, yet still find it hard to believe. I tip her and end up finding out first hand that they are real. I had to check several times to be sure:-) Absolutely stunning and she was sweet too. Her name was Monroe 'like Marilyn' and she said she works weekdays.

Scoops, I think the dancer talent at Paper Moon is fine. My problem is with their costs. Even when it's on sale, they charge $30 for what should be $20 at most, considering it's fully clothed. Wall says above he got his gal to lift her top; meanwhile at Hugger there are gals who will flash the bottom (the dance is already topless). I've even had a dancer or two at Hugger tell me to pull their "underwear aside and shove my digits in there!" Never done that at Hugger because I know it's against the rules. By the way, a dance at Hugger is $10 for a 3.5 or 4 minute song.

wallanon, I was not aware of the 'Phelps Fiasco' including any strippers, thanks for the reference. I looked up the stories and believe it is NOT the same dancer. Here is a link to pictures: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/art…

My Vanity was not so well endowed (at least when I knew her) and the face is different.

CTQWERTY, I absolutely agree with you on the prices at PM, and will now add Kokomo to my must visit list. I guess I felt I just had to mention PM's greatest asset! As for wallanon's top lifting, I found the girls don't mind if your hand ends up inside the top. Again, I've had sooo much more for sooo much less at other clubs.
