I have been to strip clubs in many different states. While I was in San Diego for a month I visited a few strip clubs. My conclusion is that San Diego has the most ridiculous strip clubs.

1. San Diego has a 6 foot separation rule, which means full nude girls need to be 6 feet away from the patrons. I have been to strip clubs on other states, where the stripper can be as close as few inches while performing on stage. In one club, strippers on stage even pull patrons towards their boobs.

2. Only in San Diego are you expected to tip every dancer. It does not matter where you sit or what you are doing, or even if you're paying attention to the strippers. Every stripper comes to you after her stage show, and asks you for tips. In other places, you only need to tip them if you are sitting at the stage. No one comes around asking for tips if you are away from the stage area or at the bar.

3. Strip Clubs in San Diego have "nude private dances with no contact". Very few have a "with contact lap dance", but with the bikini on. Some don't even have a "with contact dance". In most places these dances are $20. Some have no happy hour for dances either. I have no interest in no contact dances. and in some places in San Diego you get the "with contact" dance only for a minimum of five songs. There is no one song sample rate.

I have been to Goldfinger, Les Girls, Body Shop, and Tens Showclub. I would not recommend any strip club in San Diego. My bet is the locals have no idea of what a lap dance means. I have had $10 full nude, full contact lap dances in Dallas during a happy hour. If you are from out of town to San Diego, just skip any visit to stripclubs here.

I agree, TJ is 15 miles south I believe the only people in a SD strip club can not get a passport even then I think the local hooters have better mileage.
While I generally agree with the sentiment, you haven't been to Cheetahs, which is a notable omission.
When I do leave town, it's frustrating for me when girls are reluctant to do a topless lap dance (usually the cheapest option, so they get less money), since that's basically like getting "extras" for someone from SD.
Just stay away from the strip clubs there if and only you are looking for good contact dances. The clubs there are just good to sit around and look at eye candy.
The city doesnt want strip clubs to ruin the good name of San Diego.
@rocstarsky, i love the city, just not the strip clubs. the reason u give is so lame. SD has so many strip clubs, swinger clubs, adult shops and theaters. it is bustling with adult entertainment. no real reason for those laws.
I'm with bostonnewb - SD clubs are among the most disappointing anywhere, which is in part why I never chose to move there. The 6-ft thing is apparently still the rule, and the dances, at least in my experience, were totally non-contact (except for bikini dances). I din't have the fortunate experience of meeting dancers who offered more.
I also didn't know about the TJ clubs. If I ever go back to visit, I'll for sure head south to TJ for Adelita's or Hong Kong. They sound like the closest thing to heaven this side of the Atlantic or the Pacific.
no need to even drive, hop the trolley to the border. Admittedly it is not as easy to cross back as it used to be, but plan ahead and you have all the affordable action you could handle.
@bostonnweb, you clearly love san diego and apparently want some changes to the strip clubs. why dont you go to their city hall, ask for the right person, and let your opinions be heard.
Pure Platnum sucks too. TJ wasn't an option on that trip. I actually didn't mind when my wife called while some Mexican girl was working me up for a VIP ripoff. Great excuse to leave...
screw SD - listen to your brethren on this discussion. Drive, cab or take the tram to Tijuana - then go to Hong Kong or Adelita's or Chicago's and have the time of your life. Go with a buddy or two and you'll have memories to talk about when you're 80!
RocStarsky pretty much has it; it's not that the clubs decided to suck, it's that they forced to by the local laws which are essentially written with the intent of driving the clubs out of business. The only reason so many stay open is because of the heavy local military presence.
i have nothing against the club management, they are just following the law. i wrote the article, so that if anyone comes from out of town like me, they are better off doing something else, or go to tj. and forgot to mention this: if the stage area is full nude, then they sell only non-alcoholic drinks, with a 2 drink minimum. and if the stage area is topless, then alcohol is served with no minimums. afaik, this is the policy in most clubs in SD.
