Behind the Scenes: The Strip Club Dressing Room
kumasdaisy
I am often asked by regular customers what/who the dancers are discussing in the dressing room. I usually just tell them we're having pussy-eating contests or something, but it always makes me think about what runs through guys' heads when they look at the "DO NOT ENTER" sign on the entrance to our secret spot.

I can't speak about other clubs, but here's what its like in Daisy's neck-of-the-woods.

1. A lot of grooming. Obviously. This is the intended use for the dressing room, and we do this a lot. But along with the grooming comes a lot of self-conscious complaining, because we want to look just so all the time. In an environment of direct competition with other females, we've got to be on top of our game.

2. Gossip. This is the second most important function of the dressing room. Like I said, it's a competition, so girls get jealous and talk a lot - about girls mostly, but sometimes customers, and usually only customers who smell gross or have a kinky fetish or something.

3. Complaining. We don't complain about work (because we have a FABULOUS job), but we complain about boyfriends/husbands, classes (if applicable), exhaustion, car problems... Really, every little thing. We bitch it out in back so customers don't have to listen to it all night, because who wants that?

4.Floor-work practice, stretching, crunches... There's a lot of movement in the dressing room usually because we are always trying out new things. Those of us who do a lot of pole tricks need to get limber, so we often stretch out before our first set. I routinely pull muscles and sometimes I'll ask someone to exchange backrubs with me. We teach the new girls little tricks so they can roll around on the floor without looking like a fool or walk in more of a sexy way (heels are an acquired taste). I personally spend a lot of time trying to keep my abs looking tight, so I go in back to do crunches when I'm not busy.

5. Bartering and trading. We swap outfits a lot, buy and sell things to each other - it's like a garage sale that's always going on. This is especially common because a lot of places that sell dancewear don't let you try things on, or the clothes come in a box so you're buying them sight-unseen. So if something is too big, you sell it to a girl with big boobs, and if it's too small, you sell it to Daisy. ;)

6. Pussy-eating contests. Really. But not really. Possibly. I guess you'll never know...

I love your sense of humor!
One of these days I'll have to try and slip into the dancers dressing room, if but for only a brief glimpse. I think I might be able to linger in there for a little while before anyone realized that I didn't work there ;)
Kuma's is a very friendly club, too. I've heard stories of girls ripping each other's weaves out and things like that, but we don't fight. We all pretty much like each other, so we're rather lucky.
I would like to judge the pussy eating contests, however.
In "Private Dancer" magazine (www.privatedancermag.com), several years ago, it had quite a story on a deluxe dressing room at the club, now known as Bare Elegance, Van Nuys, CA. It had work-out equipment and private, individual dressing rooms. Seemed like a nice place for dancers in their down time.
I think a "deluxe" dressing room sounds great - problem is, girls would never want to leave!
A few local dancers I like, work in Vegas during the busy season, and both mentioned that the clubs they worked in had large lockable lockers for the dancers to keep their stuff. As well as a lot of personal space, some exercise equipment and several showers for the dancers to freshen up in. I also heard that the backstabbing is ten times as worse than at the local club.
Most clubs are probably pretty lame. Years ago I asked a feature in an out of state club her when she would come to Columbus, and she told me that she only went there once and would never work there again. She talking about how the dressing room at the Columbus club was horrible. She didn't like that there was no separate area for the features, that she hardly had any room to change into her outfits, and that one of her costumes got damaged. At the time there several clubs in Columbus had features, so I don't know exactly which club she was talking about, I am almost 100% sure I know which club it was based off what other dancers who worked there have told me.
I think it goes... How much did he give you? How big is he? Did you get him off? Did he get you off?
Exactly right. I actually like it when girls complain to me that the dressing room is too hot or too cold, to messy, cramped etc...I just tell them to spend as little time in there as possible. A deluxe dressing room wouldn't do any of us any good. What gets me about the dressing room is how messy it gets! It's unbelievable, really.
