One of these days I'd like to read more letters sent from the founders to each other. Letters that aren't necessarily war correspondents but rather talking of philosophical matters. Obviously the Revolution and the Revolutionary War has been studied a lot by academics. What I meant though is the lack of screen time that's really been dedicated to it. The Patriot was a good movie but its pretty much the only major film on the Revolutionary War that I can think of.

I think one important thing that I would tell a high schooler who's about to enter college is to not have his expectations so high. TV, movies, the way that people on the internet and even some adults I knew in real life portray college as this kind of heaven-like environment where you spend most of your time getting attention from hot girls and sleeping with them. I would tell him that although that lifestyle exists, and that there are a lot of parties that are relatively easy to get into, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will have an awesome sex life. For a lot of guys, their "college experience" is spending most of their time on the couch playing video games, watching TV, trying to convince their roommate to take the trash out, and arguing about politics with their friends. When I was in high school though, I was told two different things. One side was that college was essentially a ticket to an orgy, where you have sex with hot girls every day and night. The other was that nobody parties and they just spend all day and night studying. Youtube was available to me and I saw people having parties and stuff like that so I knew that the later was bullshit so I assumed the former was true. What is actually the case though, is that the lifestyle the former talks about is there. Its not like that lifestyle doesn't exist, but that lifestyle might not be as glamorous or inclusive as you think it is. If you are not able to live that lifestyle, or don't want to, then don't freak out thinking you are wasting your life. Freaking out because you don't have access to sexual intimacy with hot girls all the time is equivalent to freaking out thinking you are wasting your life because you're not making a six figure salary. There's other ways to have your need for intimacy fulfilled though. I think what I'm trying to do is legitimize the use of those methods and show people that there's nothing wrong with doing that and in many cases might be the better option for a lot of people.

Its incredible how much sex can differ in quality. Even sex with the hottest girl you've ever seen can feel just okay if she does nothing but lay there. I one time saw an escort who was really hot but there was just no enthusiasm or anything and it made the whole thing feel like a very mediocre experience despite how physically beautiful she was. A lot of people have pointed out when I come up with suggestions like the ones I have that TV has to cater to the lowest common denominator in order to get viewers and stuff like that but that's not actually true. What I find with "experimental" shows is that they tend to not really make it anywhere or they end up being one of the greatest successes of all time. Death Note for example is considered one of the greatest animes created and one reason why its great is because it doesn't cater to the lowest common denominator. It is very intelligently written, explores human psychology, and has lots of plot twists. I think L is pretty likable, and Kira is a fascinating character although I wouldn't really call him "likable." A lot of shows that really obviously only appeal to the lowest common denominator end up being considered trash TV (sorry but Jersey Shore is a perfect example of trash TV). Another example of a great show that doesn't cater to the lowest common denominator is Black Mirror. Black Mirror is designed to disturb you and to make you think. Its not created for the lowest common denominator at all.

Or I guess the fascinating thing would be to show why people came to the conclusions they did. Why did people think slavery was okay? Why were sexual norms so restrictive? Why was religion so important to a lot of people? My dad has mentioned before that he actually dislikes almost all of the characters in game of thrones but still finds it interesting enough to want to watch. This tells me that maybe every show doesn't necessarily need relatable characters to be good.

Caligula is part of what I mean though by "an excuse to shoot a porno." Well the point isn't to show characters like that who's experiences we can relate to but rather to show a completely different world from our own. I think a lot of people actually don't know how different the past really was. Have characters going through puberty at 18 for example, having other characters randomly die from tuberculosis, portraying feasts and festivals. I like watching historical battles and politics on screen too but I'd really like to watch something that shows all the cultural differences. The characters should be a product of their time and not characters created just to be relatable to a modern viewership.

Ooh and also a LOTR show about "The Silmarillion" would be awesome.

@CMI I wouldn't want to go for the sole purpose of mongering either whereas I do think that's honestly the only draw of TJ for me, I do really want to go there though and I thought that might be a cool thing to do if I do go. If I went for like a week though, its like something I might do one night. It might be better to just hire an escort online if that's the case. Truthfully, I don't know why you have this much of a problem with me because I'm pretty nice to you whenever we do talk. I don't believe I've ever insulted you. I am very opinionated but that's pretty much it, I disagree with SJG on things all the time but I still like him, I still enjoy talking to him. The point of a forum is to share opinions and find out other people's. Disagreement is often a major part of that and is sown into the fabric of any forum with an active user base. I've never really paid much attention to the age of the person I'm talking to. I'm on another forum where I'm one of the older members actually. It doesn't feel that different though besides the fact that it's for a very different hobby so people's views on things are very different. Still I'll talk to a 16 year old the same way I talk to a 21 year old or a 50 year old.
