Godfrey man gets two years in credit card fraud case
January 13, 2009 - 2:20 PM
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A former government purchasing agent is sentenced to two years in prison for ringing up thousands of dollars of fraudulent charges on a government-issued credit card.
Steven Brown of Godfrey also was ordered Tuesday to repay $261,392. He pleaded guilty in federal court in October to one felony count of theft of public money.
Court records indicate that Brown met a then-exotic dancer, Teressa Shrum of Hannibal, in 2004, while he worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Arnold. U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway says they came up with a plan to run bogus transactions through her credit card processing business.
