This. I'm sure that the county locals have learned by now that the dial-a-ho services are very high risk. But the county is one of the fastest growing in the U.S., so there's no shortage or new transplants who didn't get the memo, lol. Also, with it's proximity to both Orlando on one side and Tampa on the other and its own lesser known tourist attractions, there's no shortage of tourists and other transients passing through. Plenty of fresh meat for routine prostitution stings.

Now I'm not especially fond this Sherrif's showboat tactics, but it would seem that his constituents are if he keeps getting re-elected. And to be honest I also live in a county where the tolerance for this stuff is pretty low, which right now I'm happy about. I don't drive by titty bars and AMPs when I'm bringing my kids to school, nor do we have prostitutes openly operating locally - or the crime that comes with them.

When I want to have fun, I just head into Jacksonville. Granted Jacksonville's schools suck ass, the city budget is a mess and crime is an ever-present problem. But it does have strip clubs and plenty of other adult entertainment options. And once I have my fun and I'm a few cc's lighter, I just head back home to my leafy Republican suburbs. 😁

I don't know if you realize this, but even in the so called "blue" states a lot of the counties outside of the large urban areas lean red. In the last election, 2,067 counties voted Republican while only 338 voted Dem.

Yeah @rickdugan. Which ones exactly? Good school districts are overwhelmingly in wealthy suburban areas that are blue strongholds. The exceptions are few and far between - like Teton County, WY, which I believe holds the record for highest number of billionaire residents.

Enough to file charges? Well, the evidence seems to suggest not. 255 suspects? Surely not, but 1 suspected one? Seems likely. That's almost the definition of middle of the road, not zero and not 255.

Between kowtowing to the teacher's unions and letting their social policy views influence how they try to manage educational outcomes, they end up fucking the shit out of their schools. This includes lovely things like watering down courses, warping U.S. and world history content in highly subjective ways and of course eliminating AP/honors tracks and standardized testing in the name of "equity."

You also have a very myopic view of "freedom." In too many ways to easily list, I have been far more free here in FL than I ever was in the Nanny States that I lived in, which found infinite ways to insert itself (financially and otherwise) into my everyday life. As someone with strong libertarian leanings, I hate government involved in almost anything in my life, but having to drive 20 minutes to get to a strip club is a small price to pay for everything I gained when I moved to FL.

Judd is one sheriff in one county who probably keeps getting re-elected because he's doing what his particular voters want. Given Polk County's unique location sandwiched between Orlando and Tampa, my guess is that the county deals with a lot of human sewage runoff from both cities and has taken an aggressive stance to keep the worst of the spillover problems out. Again I don't agree with the approach, but I can see why the county's voters support it.

^ Nah most of the sheriffs in this state get re-elected over and over, we had a Democrat Rick Bradshaw who is now serving his sixth four term, I don't even think most know who their sheriff is.

24, you're speaking as someone who lives in a very population dense part of the state with robust city/town level police departments. If you traveled more around other parts of the state, you'd know that many FL cities and towns rely upon county Sheriff's offices do the bulk of the policing. I'm in one such county and similar conditions exist in Polk.

You'd best believe that folks in these counties not only know who their sheriffs are, but track what they're doing and actively vote. If they don't think a sheriff is getting the job done they'll replace him with someone who will. They don't have to make a party choice to boot a sheriff either since sheriffs also have to run in the party primaries.

Where I live it’s the sheriffs department, Palm Beach County has a very large department, it’s also a very large diverse county with both highly populated areas and over 2/3s of the county is open space, very large agricultural areas as well as large unpopulated places that are protected Everglades, Lake Okeechobee is huge I’d guess the lake is 20-25% of the area. The sheriffs department is probably one of the largest most complex in the state of Florida. The only departments larger are probably Broward and Miami Dade.

BTW I’ve traveled all over the state, and the majority of the counties have, pretty professional departments, there’s a few backwoods departments but I’ve been here since the 1980s, been involved in many projects across this state as well as a dozen other states, compared with many of the other states in this region our police and sheriffs are top notch.

Georgia has 159 counties and each has a sheriff that is required by state constitution. Taliaferro County has a population of 1,069. I wonder how many arrests they make for prostitution?
