Florida law requires strippers and massage parlor workers to be 21 or older

What do you think of this? Seems like DeSantis and the Florida Republicans are conflating sex work with human trafficking.

Old news indeed, but made fresh again a few days ago when a U.S. appeals court upheld a similar law imposed by the city of Jacksonville. It is now far less likely that a similar case against the state law, which was put on hold while the Jacksonville case played out, will move forward.

Tbh I don't mind this law at all. 18-20 year old kids are far less mature than they were 30 years ago. They just don't grow up as fast anymore. I cannot really fathom a kid still going to High School able to swing on a stripper poll at night because she turned 18 during the school year.

I’ll support this when you can’t sign up for the military and risk your life until 21 or you can’t be charged as an adult until 21. They’re very selective about when people can make decisions. It’s just puritanical BS.

I prefer women old enough to drink with me. I also prefer one clear age when you are an adult. 17 for this, 18 for that, 21 for another thing, 25 for your insurance to drop, and 27 to age off your parents' insurance is so obviously insane!

Its better to have leave it at 18, to provide income opportunities for highschool dropouts or someone who doesnt want to go to college or cant afford it. A law like this will push those girls into becoming pimped street hoes which is a worse situation than being a stripper or massage girl

“Robert Kraft does not approve.”

Kraft actually had his fun with the mamasan so he probably doesn’t care. Belichick on the other hand…

Personally, I usually don’t click with the under 21’s. Not a legal hang up, I just don’t like the feeling of an unequal give and take. I have met a few 20 year olds who were savvy and street smart beyond their years. Case by case basis and I wasn’t looking for them, it just clicked.

===> "I’ll support this when you can’t sign up for the military and risk your life until 21 or you can’t be charged as an adult until 21."

@Boomer: I used to feel the same way. I still do about the drinking age. It seems ridiculous to me that someone can die for their country but can't have a freaking beer.

But strip clubs are a very unique animal. I see this from both sides as both a degenerate who frequents clubs and a father to school age kids.

Kids nowadays just aren't like us when we were 18. They are soft and naïve and sheltered. An 18 year old High School senior just isn't equipped to deal with grown men in that way.

Over the years I've also seen some bad stuff happen with 18 year olds in strip clubs. Deviants target them and try to manipulate them. More times than I care to remember, parents were behind their kids stripping because they needed the extra household income. They are more susceptible to getting sucked into the drug culture than older strippers. Many of the biggest mistakes and regrets I've ever heard from long time strippers goes back to when they started in their late teens. I could go on.

I'm not convinced that raising the minimum age for strippers will have any impact on trafficking.

Why not go after the thugs who are the pimps and "managers" and make sex work legal and safe for the workers.

We seem to have a parallel with Prohibition...... making alcohol illegal gave rise to organized crime and bootleggers. Making alcohol legal and safe (at least relatively safe) provided an alternative to the alcohol that Al Capone and others in organized crime were running while alcohol was illegal and profits were high.

DeSatan is a good one. I would still say fucker carlson and cumela harris are funnier ones.

I think a younger dancer or sex worker, especially if she didnt have boyfriends in school, can be more vulnerable to getting attached to a client or pimp.

I'm guessing they passed this as a favor to Matt Gaetz. Now all the teenage sex workers will only have the option of P4P with him. He'll be able to get bargain basement rates.

Good law. I may have had a different opinion when I was much younger, but now I feel a little creepy getting a lap dance from an 18 yo.

Some of my favorite JAX dancers were 19. Definitely noticed when this law came into place. Glad Georgia is still 18+!

Icee: Isn’t the age of consent in California 18? The strictest of any state jn the country? I thought the left coast was supposed to be progressive.

Those of you who are framing this as a choice between stripping or prostituting are morons. You do realize that many women do neither, yet still manage to make a living, no?

Its more complex. Unless theres a sheriff card or health card requirement girls will strip with fake IDs or work the underground party/club scene. Prostitution is always a last resort.

Rick an 18 year old highschool graduate or a highschool dropout has no serious ways to make money. I doubt a high end restaurant will hire her with no experience. There are some who can survive but it likely involves working a retail job, and having roommates or an SO who are paying their share of the bills.

From a customer perspective, I don't really miss the 18-20 year old strippers much. It was pretty rare I messed with those girls, although I will say I did become close with one such girl just before she lost her job due to this law and we got closer after as a result.

But I'm with the camp who finds this sort of thing hypocritical. If someone is old enough to join the service, or theoretically be drafted into service, then they're sure as shit old enough to make the decision to strip. I also don't like taking that avenue of self-sufficiency away from kids. Hearing about some of the situations these kids are coming from, I can't help but feel like the strip club is a vast improvement, even acknowledging some of the pitfalls Rick mentioned it still seems like a net positive.

In any case, I'd agree its unlikely this changes any time soon in light of the recent ruling on the local case. And the longer it persists, the less likely it is to ever change. I suppose maybe it's natural the age of majority creeps upward as life expectancy does, I'd just like to see it applied more consistently and I guess gradually.

It depends on your state. But the marijuana industry doesn't require experience and pays well in some states. Packing and sorting weed for $20 an hour with free lunch and being allowed to smoke on the job isnt bad. A lot of young girls get into it. A lot of strippers. Many have jobs or llcs to funnel money into so they can get car notes apts etc. in clubs where theyre employees they start at like $17 an hour and get bonuses and raises for promoting, selling sections and bottles. I know some making $25 on top of tips and dances etc. its not as bleak for young women everywhere

In the big cities the minimum wage is probably close to $20 an hour and im sure some could obtain those sorts of jobs if they dont have a severe issue with drugs sticking to a schedule, professionalism etc. but theres nothing they can really do to make close to sex worker money

Sex worker money is exaggerated. Makeup outfits shoes. Living in weeklies. All of that adds up and is expensive in larger cities. Even with pay stubs. Car notes and apts are expensive. Now add to it that money isnt consistent. Judge by their worst night not best. She can easily lose money working if she doesnt make more than her house fee.
If shes a hooker she can make 2k one day and nothing the next 3. Its all fast money but not consistent. And its addictive. Thats why it moves quick

When I am in my home town, I only go to clubs during the day. I usually beat the 5PM rush and spend dinner at home and the TV.

If I'm out of town it becomes at matter of going to a club or staying in my hotel room. I usually choose the club but stay low key.

Old dancers are definitely a problem in clubs. I feel bad for them. The amount of rejection they go through each day. But they have to know most men dont want to spend money on old women at the club

I think they are likely doing better than years prior thanks to milf porn, guys with mommy issues, etc nowadays. Guys are more open to dating and marrying older women now than ever before.
