Probably her best option. He's progressive but old and white.

He doesn't bring a state but Shapiro would have alienated the powerful Jew-Hating wing of the Democratic party. Arizona might be too far out of reach this cycle.

This is a de facto concession. They know Kamala can't win, so they're gonna use the next three months to shine a spotlight on their insane vision for the future. That way, whenever they get another chance at real governance, the shock of their radical America-last agenda will have mellowed a bit, as it won't be anything new.

You all are making a grave mistake underestimating the Democrats. The biggest issue most Republicans haven't come to terms with is just how much certain segments of the Democratic voting bloc hate Trump. Its unfortunate, but very rarely are elections decided based on pragmatism. The economy is the only exception, and even that is a coin toss depending on which side benefits from the status quo.
  • Puddy Tat

I'm not underestimating Democrats. I still think Trump has a better shot, but I don't think Walz will turn out a lot of people who wouldn't already vote Democratic. Recent history shows VPs matter less than one might think. If anything it says Harris wants to be "normal" with an old white guy even if he is pretty left.

If Trump were smarter he'd ignore the race and gender shit and focus on every radical thing Harris has said or done, as well as her nonsense at the border, but Trump has less impulse control than a cat at a sushi bar.

Walz brings nothing, absolutely nothing, to Kamala's ticket. He is the most liberal governor whose cities burned after career felon George Floyd died while resisting arrest. Kamala is the most liberal congressman in history, who started a fund to bail out criminals to continuing looting and burning in Walz's state and elsewhere.

He is demonstrably, dangerously liberal, and will drive away independents and moderates.

^ I don’t know where you get your information from buddy, Walz is gonna help Kamala win Minnesota! lol. Such a strategic pick!

Did the republicans strategize and pick Kamala’s running mate and the dems pick for Trump? Sure seems that way. Neither add anything IMHO. If I were to pick for the Dems and I wanted them to win I would pick Mark Kelly.

It seems both parties had to really dig deep to find two Vice Presidential candidates so insignificant as to not outshine the incompetent at the top of each respective ticket. I look at politics in America and think that if you've saved $10,000.00 or more for retirement, you wasted $10,000.00 or more.

I would have preferred Shapiro or Kelly too.

But, I gather that part of the consideration here is the balance of the Senate and ownership of the Governor's mansions. Nominating Kelly or Shapiro would have meant a competitive election to hold the Senate Seat and Governor's mansions, respectively. In contrast, nominating Walz runs a much lower risk of turning over the governorship of Minnesota.
  • skibum609
^ Yup, all about politics (Kelly is harder on the birder) and bigotry (muslims hate Jews and that outweighs electoral votes) and never about the American people. Two terrible presidential candidates and two dolts as vice presidential candidates.
  • RonJax2

The point I was making was I think this move was actually about governing than politics. She wants to hold the Senate and keep those Gov mansions when she wins.
  • Puddy Tat
^ That counts as politics to me, though he doesn't get her any closer to the Oval Office. The more I think about this pick the more I think it blunts her momentum.

It's Dems' own DEI hire... chosen for race and gender but still progressive. Does her no favor with the center. Now they can run clips of Minneapolis burning and tampons in boys bathrooms in addition to Harris' far left positions and California blight.

I’m scared. Trump is an old fat idiot but he’s still a better choice than the radical Marxist Harris. The Democrat base seems to be rallying around her. And I’m afraid this honeymoon phase could linger.

And it’s not hyperbole. Her father was a Marxist economist at Stanford who argued for the redistribution of wealth.

I’m only in favor of the redistribution of wealth if I’ve giving it to a 20-something blonde dancer - not a program mandated by the government

Motorhead using taxes to fund public goods is still to some extent socialistic.
Now, the right wing is still socialistic if you consider how they want to give away american dollars to foreign countries like israel and many others.

As far as the “powerful Jew hating wing of the democratic party” the right has that as well. The Jew haters are a fringe element in both parties.

Why did you guys decide to run the senile, anti-democracy, convicted felon, rapist in the first place? There were so many other qualified candidates, some I might have even voted for. As it stands, the democrats just need to fire up their base and then let Trump keep doing stupid shit - like attacking Republican GA Gov. Kemp - and the election will be over.

That’s horseshit and you know it. Just because someone’s father was one way doesn’t mean their offspring can’t be much better than them. After all, look at Fred Trump, he was a crooked real estate guy who discriminated against minorities. That doesn’t mean that … Nevermind.

Yeah Trump isn't my first pick on the GOP side (I mean how much better would you feel with Ron DeSantis right now) but at the end of the day I just don't know if this country can survive another 4 years of an open border and 15 million more illegals. Newsflash it ain't doctors and lawyers coming in. Mostly from countries that hate us. CCP agents, Central American gangmembers, military age radical muslim men on a jihad, it's not a fit. At all. Now we have to unfuck all that. And that was done on purpose. For votes. American taxpayer has to pay for all of it. What an incredible act of treason. Yeah I'm just not voting for any of that bullshit.

In the vast majority of cases it is true. In her example, her record has proven where she stands on many issues. You can try to whitewash her record, but any intelligent human can she what she wants in her presidency.

I'm really worried about the future of women in this country. Many of us have women in our family, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, daughters. We care about them. But folks we are letting in from countries where violence against women is just par for the course. You'll see in the third world women walk down the street in these big groups, there's a reason for that. It's fucking dangerous. If men want to rape and kill they just do so because they feel like it and women are just property. There's no law and order like here.

I really think the days of women just walking alone outside are coming to an end. These cultures coming in are just not like us. Look at the UK. How many little girls have to get gang raped by pakistani men again and again and again, stabbed to death at a Taylor Swift get together or at any random playground, blown up at an Ariana Grande concert. It sure ain't english guys doing that. And that bs is coming here. How about we have a spine, actually be men and just say no, we don't want that here. We are closing this border because it is downright unsafe. At the end of the day, they are gonna call you racist no matter wtf you do, so you might as well have some balls.

Vivek, Kristy Noem, DeSantis, heck even Haley.

^those 4 are drastically inferior to trump. Theyre also more corrupt, dumber, greedier, more racist, etc. DeSantis is a nutcase- the dude bragged about being the “most pro israel governor in history” laughable. Haley wanted israel to nuke the middle east…
Theyre poorer than trump, and so they’re much more susceptible to donors. They would basically be big warmongers if elected.
Theyre subhuman. Trump fucked them good to the point they cant even compete with him

Trump won the candidacy because he had excellent results for America and the free world during his first term. It is that simple. Record low migration, record low unemployment, record low incidence of global and regional violence, ISIS destroyed, jobs returning, renegotiating shitty treaties so they actually benefited Americans. He wasn't perfect. His NoKo engagement didn't work out. He gave in on Ryan's omnibus deal. Still the sum total of his successes and benefits to the nation blots out whatever scant few things Joe has done right. Meanwhile, the sum total of shit Joe ruined and fucked up outshines even what Trump had done right. Joe ruined it all, and Kamala helped through a mixture of incompetent participation and stubborn inaction (ie the border crisis).

That's we are running a septuagenarian, MAGA, wrongly convicted, innocent man in the first place.

Regarding Harris' honeymoon, yeah honeymoons end but she's getting multiple bumps that are adding energy to her campaign and an extended honeymoon.

After almost 4 years of sleepy joe, watching him crumble and stumble the dems seem really excited to see him step down and are swallowing what the MSM is feeding them, glossing over harris' dubious accomplishments and abilities.

No matter the record of walz, picking him gave a positive jolt to her campaign which is already riding high. I recall 2016 and 2020 when clinton and biden were running, their campaign events were barren and quiet, not many people attending. I caught a little of the philly debut today and there were thousands of excited people cheering for them. It's early but not a good sign IMO.

The dem convention is yet to come and they'll get another bump from that which extends the honeymoon. How long will it last remains to be seen but the msm is working overtime to throw a positive spin on everything about the dem ticket.

There's a comment above about Americans thinking for themselves, I can't give many of them that much credit. Personally I'm concerned regarding the abrupt change of direction the process has taken since harris was anointed.

I hope she fails but i'm far from convinced that she will.

@motorhead - They also said Shapiro was too proud to accept being second fiddle. And some skeletons in his closet related to a sexual harassment case (though that sounds pretty light compared to what every major candidate in recent memory has been into).

I'm sure that Shapiro being Jewish was quite a handicap with LGBTQ+_*/^s for Palestine, and Michigan.

The left is cumming in its collective boxers over Walz, but they're the same buffoons who talked about wanting to run AOC the first election she's eligible for. Walz might make them feel good, but he won't bring a state, a constituency, or the center.

She's trying to disavow some of her left-of-left positions--defund the police, ban fracking, abolish private health insurance, wonder if she's said anything about her past support for racial reparations--but so did Biden before he went hard left. Only a fool or a liar believes her "conversion" (just in time for an election) is real.

On top of that, Walz adds a more extreme trans (i.e. medical child abuse) agenda than anyone and ownership of the riotous 2020 anarchy. Child abuse is between the child and the doctor? If you believe that, eat my asshole.

Walz also waited far too long while Minneapolis burned. He then sent 100 Guardsmen into a mob attacked city, leaving citizens to defend themselves. In 2020 the murder rate skyrocketed, went up again the next year and remains 50% above 2019. His wife in an interview said she left the windows open to smell the burning tires in the city in that important moment and shared confidential information with his 19-year-old daughter who tweeted out not to expect a police response that night. Typical progressive assclown masquerading as a decent guy. Amazing the democrats found a bigger douchebag than J.D. Vance.

Geez 20 years in the National Guard ... more than you did.

    Newsweek fact-checks both sides
    https://www.newsweek.com/jd-vance-attack…

This is the new Swiftboating. Walz's record is fine. He didn't "abandon" (in fact, he re-upped after 9/11, then left directly to run for office as an immediate consequence of wanting to speak out more about military decisions in the lead-up to his leaving) and he didn't "lie". It's pretty clear to me that Vance is looking to besmirch just because Vance knows that reality is not particularly important to people who would vote for Vance.

I'm proud to not be a sucker for this sort of fraud. Just look it up at verifiable news sources. Washington Post initially FELL FOR the fraud, then re-edited and posts up front on the story's web page that it has been edited. They "edited" meaning, CORRECTED in order to state fact rather than Vance's lies. They didn't "stealth" anything.

Maybe Walz was eating babies underneath a pizza parlor too.

Walz's lies go farther than lying that he carried a rifle in combat. He boasts that he is a retired Command Master Sgt. He is not, he retired early, failed to fulfill the requirements for that rank, and was busted down to Master Sgt, retired. That is stolen valor. He is unfit to be VP or anywhere in the line of presidential succession.

BOOK - Was your post seriously that dense? I didn't get my fucking news on stolen valor Walz from Fox, I got it from left wing lick Joe Biden's ass CNN. This guy claimed to have carried a weapon in combat: A lie. Never even close to a war. This guy claimed on his governor's website to have retired as a command sergeant major: A lie. While he was promoted to command sergeant major, he was required to serve two years in that position, and when his unit found out they were deploying to Iraq he retired rather than leading his men. He retired as a sergeant major and a liar. He was, is and always will be a liar, basing his career on stolen valor. Just read the same thing on WAPO, so dude wtf are you talking about.

I am voting for trump and hoping that if Harris wins she and Walz are in a plane crash and the Republican Speaker of the House becomes President. The idea that things were worse under trump than under Biden is such bullshit. Why lie when everyone knows the truth? Not everyone is as gullible as a democrat. Claiming I have no problem with Trump as president after all my posts is just insane gibberish from someone as competent as Biden. I hate trump, but since I don't vote for nazis, commies, the klan or democrats, all for the same reasons, he is my only choice, unless voting day is wicked sunny and I play golf and go to desires and don't vote. As I tell my Jewish friends irl, anyone Jewish who votes for Harris/Walz is doing the same thing as the kapos of ww2.

Walz lied both about carrying a weapon “in war” and the rank he had when he left the guard. Did he serve for 20 years? Yes. Should he be thanked? Yes. Was his “in war” a mistake or a lie? I don’t know, but he should correct it now. Should he have embellished his rank? No and he should correct it now.

He’s risking letting this become a bigger story than it already is by trying to defend what is factually untrue. It’s like Trump trying to force Kamala to defend that she’s Black. Her dad was Jamaican her mom was Indian. End of story. Walz served 20 years and retired with the rank he earned. End of story.

None of this changes a vote for 99.9% of voters.

Skibum what you and so many on the right fail to understand is that the support israel gets from the right isnt a genuine support but rather rooted in religious belief. Its a bit sad when you get atheists who happen to become right wing, start supporting israel without understanding why the right supports it so much. The reason it’s supported so much is based around prophecies which involve Jesus coming back after certain events occur in israel. The right supports israel for now, but will eventually turn against it.

The campaign changed their materials today to say Walz “served as a command sergeant major.” The statement now matches what a US Army public affairs officer stated to the Minn Star Tribune back in 2022 “Walz obtained the rank of command sergeant major and served in that role but retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes due to not completing additional coursework.”

Stupid mistake by the dems to allow this to slip through when most people wouldn’t know the difference between the ranks. Apparently it’s been an issue for him in previous campaigns.

Apparently, Walz also abandoned his battalion like months before they were deployed to Irag, leaving them without a leader. Others have called him out on this and two fellow soldiers wrote an open letter about it. While Walz's explanation seems plausible, the paperwork wasn't signed by him and objectively he did not fulfill his requirement dates when seeking Commander Master Sergeant rank.
  • gammanu95
A Lt. Col. in the Minn Nat Guard said that Walz submitted his retirement papers 5-7 months before they received the deployment orders for Iraq. So, those may not be linked. I do not know how far ahead of time senior enlisted ranks learn about anticipated future deployments; however, why would you give up the honor of achieving the highest possible enlisted rank when it is virtually handed to you?
    What cannot be disputed is
    1) Walz lies about carrying a weapon in war (and lies about military weapons being available to civilians)
    2) Walz lies about being a retired Command Master Sergeant, and has been lying about it without repercussion for years
    3) JD Vance actually went to a warzone when sent by his country

@puddy “^ It's a "mistake" when Democrats do it. It's a "LIE!!!!!" when Republicans do.”

I think you misread my post. The “mistake” to which I was referring was the democrats’ mistake in not catching this in vetting and correcting it. If you go up a couple of posts you’ll actually see that I literally said it was a “lie.”

I’ll assume you just made a MISTAKE and did not LIE about what I said.

    ^ @Hank,

"Yes. Was his “in war” a mistake or a lie? I don’t know, but he should correct it now."

Thank you for at least admitting the possibility. I'm not buying that it was a "mistake." This is not a new fact and Walz has been caught in other lies about his military service. The "AR-15" and "in war" were enough for fellow veterans to call it "stolen valor."

Regardless, the media wouldn't give Trump any grace if the Republicans made the same "mistake." It would be plastered all over the media as evidence of his depravity.

Rationalize? I would say he fucked up. He should acknowledge it an move on.

He mixed up something that happened over 25 years ago, and then embellished it a bit for dramatic effect, which is kind of his signature style and easily recognizable. It ain't no Corn Pop story about swinging chains and kids rubbing their hands up and down a grown man's hairy legs.

Also worth noting, this was during an hour-long press conference, one of many hour-long pressers and sit-down interviews that he conducts almost daily. In the weeks since Kamala ascended to the Democrat throne, she has granted the press a total of 77 seconds.

I was interested enough in what was being said here about Governor Walz to Google this, so whatever comes next is because Google said so...

According to the Associated Press, Walz retired as a Command Sergeant Major and was reduced in rank after retirement because there were admin obligations he did not fulfill to maintain the rank prior to retiring. If the words were "served as" or "retired as" a Command Sergeant Major that would be accurate.

This is quoted from the article:

"Harris’ campaign has referred to Walz as a 'retired Command Sergeant Major,' one of the top ranks for an enlisted soldier. He did in fact achieve that rank, but personnel files show he was reduced in rank months after retiring. That left him as a master sergeant for benefits purposes.

Minnesota National Guard officials have said that Walz retired before completing coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, along with other requirements associated with his promotion."

    https://apnews.com/article/walz-national…

The passage that was posted about the demotion being "for benefits purposes" doesn't make sense without the rest of it. Basically his rank was adjusted to reduce the benefits paid out because all stipulations of the promotion to CSM were not met.

The AR-15 line doesn't really seem that great from any angle if he specifically said that's what he carried. His speechwriters should tweak it to something like an AR-15 style weapon in "wartime". Every US service member in a recent 20 year period served during wartime, whether they saw combat or not, and it sounds like he was activated for a deployment. The AP article also stated that.

When he was deployed he could've possibly been issued a military rifle model he would've been required to fire and qualify on. Before the election cycle I wasn't aware this person existed (I'm not really political so don't track politicians) but it sounds like he needs to add a combat veteran consultant to his team to sort out the words he's choosing to use. If he's actually using those words.

This person is the governor of a state whose people elected Jesse the Body Ventura to run it. Let's try to keep things in perspective.

Walz served 24 years never in combat,
So fucking what, neither was a draft dodger, Trump was.
The rest of this is just misleading information as a poor attempt to smear a political opponent, and you folks are playing right into this nonsense

@Hank "25 years ago? The helicopter ride was to visit wildfires in California while Trump was president in 2018."

Yeah I worded that incorrectly. I was thinking that Willie was boning Kamala all those years ago, and wrongly implied the helicopter ride. That happens sometimes when you blast off a response quickly without thinking it through. I think that's what happened to Trump when he made the convoluted statement.

Bound to happen when you spend as much time as he does facing off with media, both friendly and hostile. But it won't ever happen to someone who only gives scripted teleprompter speeches and otherwise hides behind surrogates for all their media interaction.

  • Puddy Tat

"His speechwriters should tweak it to something like an AR-15 style weapon in "wartime"."

Uh, no. They're constructed similarly and fire the same caliber bullet. But the selective fire capability is the huge ass difference. The M9 is a weapon of war too, a semi automatic Beretta 9mm pistol, same as I can get at my local gun shop.

This isn't word choice, any more than "my TUSCL handle is Founder" is true except for the word "Founder." This is a lie that has been repeated and covered up for years.

Jonathan Chait, staunch liberal columnist, said that the Walz choice is a gamble that they can win rural white voters based purely on a folksy style, even with values opposite to theirs.

This choice was a dud. Not much time to fix.

@orange Willie Brown told the NYT that he never was in a helicopter with Trump. Trump just made the whole thing up. That’s his brand but the ease with which he lies and adds details, while not really news anymore, is kinda funny while they are attacking Walz for lying.

@puddy - the only clip I’ve seen of Walz saying he used a weapon “in war” looked like it was from some time ago, and he was walking around a room. It didn’t look like a prepared speech and definitely no teleprompter. Maybe he’s doubled down and related the claim? I called it a lie already and didn’t feel the need to research it further but mention it in response to the comment you quoted about speechwriters and teleprompters.

Per CNN: But, according to CNN's Brianna Keilar, Vance "may be an imperfect messenger" on the issue.
"Because we have, as you introduced him, as a combat correspondent, which is what [Vance's] title was," Keilar told her CNN colleague Dana Bash Thursday. "But when you dig a little deeper into that, he was a public affairs specialist, someone who did not see combat, which certainly the title ‘combat correspondent,' kind of gives you a different impression. So he may be the imperfect messenger on that."

So both sides of the aisle are pissing on the VP candidates for honorably serving their country. Meanwhile both Trump and Biden were CCR's fortunate sons and too privileged to go serve in Vietnam.

Here and I thought the "stolen valor" crap ended when Dougster left.
  • gammanu95
But Walz is not honorably serving his country. He walked away from his unit and has claimed merit and ranked he did not achieve. How is that not stolen valor?
  • wallanon
"He walked away from his unit"

The guy retired after 20+ years in the national guard, not the regular Army, about 10 months before the unit depolyed to Iraq. He'd already served on active duty and been deployed to Europe in support of troops who were in OIF and OEF.

"...and has claimed merit and ranked he did not achieve."

Multiple sources, including the military, have stated he was promoted to the rank he is claiming and was wearing it legitimately on his uniform the day he retired. I don't really have an opinion on how he's chosen to explain his service record, but can understand why someone would try to keep it simple. If people have come out if the woodwork to tell the story differently, I suppose they'll get their say and whoever is interested will make up their own minds.

Once a home seller discovers a buyer qualifies for $25k tax credit, the acceptable offer will increase by $25k.
  • rickmacrodong
Funontheside that isnt how the economy works…If a shop owner discovers that someones uncle, or government is giving them an extra $100 to shop, will they raise prices of their items by $100 as well?

The reason the 25k tax credit will raise house prices is simply because of the increased inflation it would entail and increased demand for housing it would create…
But things dont work in a linear fashion. Inflation happens when the currency supply increases. Its not as linear as “buyer receives an extra 1k so seller raises prices by 1k”

As far as the seller.. it isnt their business where you are getting the money from… and it makes no difference to the seller whether the money youre paying for the house is your personal funds, Or your uncle gave you some, or the government gave you some, .. etc.

even now if a seller has a house listed for 750k, and the buyer informs them theyre going to get a 25k tax credit, the seller would have to be an absolute buffoon if they then say “okay well the price is 775k now since youre getting a 25k tax credit”.

Or it would be like if tesla raises their prices in response to the electric vehicle tax credits. It would defeat the purpose of the tax credit if tesla raises their prices in response
