How do I log in?

I couldn't find a way to log in. Then along the top banner of the "discussion front room" page two boxes "Nickname" and "Password" appeared. I used these to log in and now the boxes have disappeared. What's happens if I should logout?

It was at the bottom of the screen for me, instead of the top.
I can't log in. I'm having technical issues.
