Kansas City

Breathe, breathe in the air
Looking at Google maps it appears that half of Kansas City is in Kansas but yet it’s a city in Missouri, which seems a bit odd ?

What’s the story behind this ? Are there any other cities that straddle a State border?

Each state is in charge of its cities’ names. For instance, there is Portland, Oregon and Portland, Maine. Likewise, there is Kansas City, Missouri and a Kansas City, Kansas. So they are distinct cities but happen to be just across state lines, to answer your question.

Similarly there is St Louis, Missouri and East St Louis, Illinois. Seems like it mostly happened where a city straddled a river before state boundaries were created.

It all began in 1854. The Constitional Monarchy of Missouri was desperate to win the cold fusion race. Vibranium, a key component for the Flux capacitator, had been discovered in the dilithium mines beneath Kansas City, in the Peoples Islamist Republic of Kansas. The Grand Poobah of Missouri called his Hand and convened his Show-me Council...

The FBI wanted to prevent LCN from spreading westward, drawingbtheir "line in the sand" at the KS-MO border. Unfortunately, the mob had already established in Kansas City, KS. So J. Edgar Hoover's great grandfather rode into Kansas under cover of darkness, with Paul Bunyan and John Henry, and dug a new path for the Missouri River to the west of Kansas City. Mary Todd Lincoln then hacked into the post office database, and permanently changed the zip code for Kansas City to Missouri.

You're asking this here, cause you think a conspiracy of strippers is behind it? What other fingerprints of the Stripper Illuminati do you see? Are they behind Washington being the capital on the east coast, and a state on the west coast thing?

The name "Kansas" comes from the Kansa or Kaw Nation. Their lands included where Kansas City Missouri is: https://sweetamericanasweethearts.blogsp… .

I've got a question. Why is the City of London not the same thing as London?

Besides Kansas City, some that come to mind immediately are Bristol, VA and Bristol, TN; in this case, there's not a river, the stateline is right down main street.

Similar names with a river separating them include Memphis, TN and West Memphis, AR, St. Louis, MO and East St. Louis, IL.

There are many cities who have duplicate names in other states which are not across the border from one another. In some cases, multiple cities with the same name are in a single state. Some of the more common city names are Washington, Franklin, Clinton, Arlington, Centerville, Lebanon, Georgetown, Springfield.

The City of London is a jurisdiction that solely exists to provide lax financial regulation. It helps allow powerful people in the UK to cheat on their taxes, and millions from crime and government corruption to come into the "legit" UK economy.

You think it is bad when you have the same town split by a state border, there are also ones that are split by the border between countries. Niagara Falls NY USA/Niagara Falls Ontario Canada and Tecate California/Tecate Mexico come to mind from the places I've been to. I'm sure there are other places around the world that a city was established long before a national or state boundary divided it similar to the way Berlin was after WWII.

If Kansas City being in Kansas and Missouri confuses you I don't know how you would come to terms with the fact that both the New York Jets and New York Giants are in New Jersey and not New York.

Texarkana is weird the city is essentially run together across two states jointly. I think the only the example of that in the US.

Back in the days when computers were powered by steam engines (maybe 1972) my roommate worked for a company that sold route mapping software to trucking companies. The maps were stored in the form of connected city pairs, with time and distance for each pair.

They noticed that every route in the eastern United States want through Aardmore Pennsylvania. It turns out there are two Aardmores in Pennsylvania. The trucks would go into the one on the eastern end of the state, get a 218 mile free ride to the other Aardmore, and come out on the west side.

It's one metropolitan area. But has to do with state borders and Missouri being in the US before kansas

But with a country this big you'll get duplicate or more names.

There's a las vegas in New mexico lulz
