Looking for Engineering Jobs in San Diego (or any technical skilled jobs)?

I am looking for a new job in San Diego. I know that isn't the type of board that normally answers these questions, but I could use any help or leads I can get. I have a resume that I can send to someone who wants to help (name and address will be removed for my privacy). I will say that I live in Northern Alabama. If I have to move by myself, I will arrange it.

If I had the El Buckos I'd move back to San Diego (at least the county area)... If you live in the North County you're only an hour away (if a traffic is not a problem) from the coffee shops of the OC. And then you're only a couple of hours away from TJ (If you leave at the right time to avoid the rush hour traffic). But it's so damned expensive now primarily due to the property values and the politics. The weather is nice and lots of opportunities (if you have the money) for a nice house. I lived there while I was in the Navy from boot camp in 1969 till May of 1973. Back then I didn't know how good I had it. So I'll stay a long distance commuter from where I live in Northwest Arizona (where it is more affordable). I can still be in Tijuana in under 7 hours driving across the desert in my cheap 2001 Corolla and my $1,500 2008 Mustang. The Corolla has the advantage of better gas mileage which is good to deal with because the gas is so expensive in California due to the politics.

I still got my badass 2012 Prius with 205,000 miles on it... it gets even better gas mileage but now it needs a new greatly improved head gasket installed to fix the seeping coolant issue...

Wow Alabama to Southern California is a big change.

You want to move there to be closer to Tijuana or just a move for change in general?

In 1987 I moved out of Orange County to a suburb of Atlanta to keep a good job. I wouldn't move back to CA for anything.

I wondering if the math here is going to work. Will your higher cost of living erase any savings from going to TJ for paid sex. TJ bar girls don't live as well as extras strippers in the US. Usually, if you have to pick between doing business with A or B, and A gets more out of doing business with you than B does, A will value you more than a customer than B will. Or, are you moving cause youtube.com ?

@ilbbaicnl, its a great song. I am sure the weather and politics are the exact opposite, but the other side is that I want a different job and I feel they have the opportunities I am looking for.

Real talk, this is actually a serious post. I am looking for a new job in San Diego, California. I have been submitting applications, but I don't have any contacts in that part of the country.

It's my impression that, among the 3 biggest metro areas in CA, San Diego is by far the least important as a tech hub. If it's not anything super personal, why would you prefer San Diego over Atlanta?

Engineering covers an uber-size industry. Can you be a tad more specific? If I lived in Alabama, I'd look to Huntsville for all kinds of engineering gigs.

As others have said, Engineer is a broad term. Could be building bridges, driving a choo choo train or something in electronics or computer science.

I was born and raised in CA and have lived in San Diego since the 80's. I've decided that I don't want to pay for stuff I don't agree with and moved. For an engineer's salary, your tax rate will be almost 10% to the state.

The city of San Diego has had a political shift in recent years and is now under a budget shortfall. There are taxes and fees that are increasing for everything right now.

I love the weather here, but even though I have my house here paid off, I pay a lot for utilities, gas, groceries and taxes and insurance. Even my dry cleaner is over double what I pay in my new state.

I'm working to close any ties I have with CA before I retire as it's just too expensive. I love San Diego but it's out of control here now.

Good luck if you decide to move here.

Specifically Electrical Engineering (specialty is in RF Engineering and Components Engineering). I work in the Defense Industry (think Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc.)

I have relatives in San Diego. It is crazy expensive (and this is coming from someone who lives in Miami Beach), but they are all employed in some way directly of indirectly by the Navy, who is probably the biggest employer in the tech sector in that part of the state. Because of this, literally every defense contractor in the world has a presence in San Diego. I would start there. Also if you have a security clearance, that will help you to find a job in the defense industry.

Qualcomm is headquartered in San Diego. They design all the RF Chips in most phones these days.

There are very few reasons for anyone sane to move to California. People have been fleeing in drives due to statewide COL, political mismanagement, rampant crime, and more. I also understand not wanting to live in AL unless hunting and fishing are your preferred past times. Have you considered Austin, TX? Better state government, no income taxes, and many tech companies who hire engineers have established there.

Because of the outstanding weather in San Diego, I would be looking for employment that makes the most use of being outdoors or at least provides the opportunity to experience the outdoors rather than being confined to an office which may be the situation with RF Engineering and Components. Do corporations still use "headhunters" to fill jobs. If they do, contact a headhunter.

These are uncertain times, economically and politically. If your current employer has layoffs, you'll probably go to the top of the list, if they know you are seeking to leave. Companies may fear they will be sanctioned for reverse discrimination for hiring someone who isn't a white male. Either the US or Mexico or both might make it hard to cross the border. If there are military strikes on Mexico, or factories relocate to the US, being in TJ maybe get even less safe for Americans.

^ "will be sanctioned for reverse discrimination" It never should have got to this degree yet here we are. We need to get past the current use of "discrimination". It is what it is. No such thing as "reverse". You are either discriminated or not regardless of whatever.

The Dems have done amazing job of Shanghaiing yet another term to use as THEY define. They've stolen & redefined Liberal from Libertarians. Weaponized and are the Keepers of what is "Democracy" which America is NOT. Definition of a "woman." They define when life begins. Dems have defined "good jeans" as racist.

San Diego is incredible with a high per capita representation of beautiful, fit women. I looked at real estate there after visiting. If I won the lottery, I’d get a condo there in La Jolla. Otherwise, anything decent is cost prohibitive.

My friend’s son was stationed there as a Marine, now as a U.S. Customs agent. He’s a super fit guy who also does personal training and is reportedly getting more hot women than he can handle.
Even he is looking to get transferred because it’s too expensive for him.

I remember Juicebox69 asking me about moving to Atlanta to be closer to the clubs. My advice still stands. Live and work where the money is and travel for the pussy.

I agree that our civvy women here are amazing. When I get on a plane I can almost always tell who is from San Diego and who is visiting.

La Jolla is not really where the action is. It's a weird mix of rich locals and rich tourists. Encinitas is probably the place I would live if I was single and over 30. Under 30 is still PB or Mission Beach. Sure, Encinitas is further from the airport and TJ but closer to LA and most of the good jobs are in North County.

Our cost of living is insane, especially to rent. I probably couldn't afford to buy my own house at current rates and prices.
