Roger E. Mosley, 'Magnum, P.I.' star, dies at 83 after a car crash

Actor Roger E. Mosley, best known for his role as the helicopter pilot Theodore "TC" Calvin on the 1980s hit show "Magnum, P.I.," died Sunday, his daughter announced. He was 83.

Mosley died surrounded by family after being injured in a car crash last week that had left him paralyzed from the shoulders down and in critical condition, the actor's daughter Ch-a Mosley said Saturday on Facebook. No further details about the crash were available.

Mosley starred in more than 150 episodes of "Magnum, P.I." alongside Tom Selleck in the crime-adventure series, which aired for eight seasons from 1980 until 1988.

Wow - I didn't know he was that old - he was 42 when Magnum P.I. first aired and 50 when the show ended.

Per Wikipedia:

"... Born on December 18, 1938 in Los Angeles, California, and raised by his mother, Eloise, Mosley grew up in the Imperial Courts public housing in the Watts neighborhood.[2] For high school, Mosley attended Jordan High School ..."

"... Mosley became a certificated private helicopter pilot. When making Magnum P.I., he was not allowed to do his own stunts. A pilot wearing a body stocking with false muscles was used instead ..."

He was great as TC. Loved that show when I was a kid. Still watch the re-runs even though it's a little corny by today's standards.

Funniest thing I see while watching re-runs that I never realized before - Selleck was way too tall for that Ferrari. His head stuck out up above the windshield.

PS: Damn that guy who played Rick was an ugly fuck.

I remember Roger from the movies THE MACK (as Max Julien's revolutionary brother) and the lead in LEADBELLY, a bio-pic about the famous bluesman. I also went to school with another of his daughters, Reni, in San Diego. RIP R.M.

I was 10 ys/o when Magnum P.I. came out - I think I recall the first episode although I haven't seen it since it first came out back in 1980 - if I recall correctly the first episode started w/ Magnum driving-up in the Ferrari in his naval uniform and parking-it in a parking-lot and him stepping-out of the Ferrari - of course as a 10 y/o the Ferrari is what got my attention and why I started watching the show.
