Growing up, I was raised with a strong work ethic by example from my parents.

My father was a legal immigrant that grew up in a small house with a dirt floor and many sibling. He was literally "dirt" poor when he came here. Growing up, I saw my parents argue a lot over what turned out to be monetary issues. I was otherwise raised a happy child and didn't feel that I lacked for anything. I had no idea we were poor.

My parents worked hard all their life and ended up with property that was worth $1 million just before they passed. I was taught that America is the land of opportunity, not the land of promises of wealth. If you work study and work hard, your opportunities are unlimited.

The US is not perfect but I feel fortunate that I grew up here and had opportunities as long as I kept working hard. I don't begrudge people that might have more than me, I strive to be like them.

I'm approaching the end of a very long and successful career and should be able to enjoy my life in retirement from the fruits of my labor. I'm not an old white guy but don't have to be that to find success and happiness.

I don't know what drives the hatred behind this stuff, but if you look at history the parallels with other extreme forms of group hate such as anti-Semitism are striking.

We have known that the society we live in has been a white male dominated society through its creation - and up to recent times.

As we move forward, we can’t erase the past, but we can maintain a more inclusive society. But our society must not be one of anarchy, it must be a lawful society, or it will crumble.

Is it smart to destroy our laws? Is it appropriate to allow a mob to decide our future?

The white old guys who formed our republic were intelligent, and they have formed a union that has worked for over 200 years. It was based on the foundations of European governments, but it allowed for the republic to grow in its own direction. It is important for folks to use peaceful methods to bring about the change they want to see.

As far as hard work is concerned, you don’t just have to work hard, you have to realize the market rewards different types of hard work differently.

The law of supply and demand applies to labor. Jobs that can be filled by anyone don’t pay as well as jon’s that require specialized skills.

On the blue collar side, both a farm worker and an electrician work hard. The electrician is going to make more money because the skills possessed are rarer and take longer to acquire than those of a far hand.
