I have been engaged in an extensive research project on this. One very well done study cited 17 pct HIV infection rate American sex workers although authors thought stats high. It is a fact 700,000 Americans deceased from HIV. So this no joking matter.

I would say it’s a function of their lifestyle various types of partners (high risk groups) drug use, etc. I have known strippers I would consider high risk (bp callgirl, arrested for street soliciting, drugs), others rather clean (she was married, but had rap sheet for 2 counts soliciting). I don’t know how even a risk factor could be even computed plus everybody knows condoms not 100 pct effective in preventing pg / but what about infection. One factor in my view would be number of partners and whether she practices 100 pct safe sex (if there such a thing).

@ATACdawg yeah but transmission rate of HIV is already pretty low for heterosexual sex. Lots of prostitutes and pornstar have pretty low HIV rates for this reason. There are also steps you can take to prevent getting HIV with medication. I would reckon that a lot of HIV infections are either through improper condom use or just lack of condom use.

What percentage of those HIV cases were from IV drug users as opposed to sex workers?
Then what percentage of those cases among sex workers were due to bareback or anal or both?
Then what percentage of those cases were from street prostitutes as opposed to agency women/strippers?

The CDC quotes F->M transmissions rates at approximately 5 in 10,000 (per encounter) for unprotected sex and when you know for sure your partner is HIV+. In the case of sugaring with one partner -- where both have tested negative -- the risk is truly in the noise level an not worth worrying about.
I could grind through the numbers, but the chance of dying from Covid is orders of magnitude higher. TUSCL is full of people who are hysterical about HIV and cavalier about Covid.

I have like a 0.01% chance of dying this year. If that goes to 0.02% that isn't concerning. Maybe for a 90 year old they go from 15% to 30% but ....they are 90 .

I was sure the response to my post would be negative. But HIV is no joke. I suffered anxiety about for a few years before getting tested (negative) and finally putting it to bed. Some here in a sense of denial about the situation it seems. The other thing is the spending of money - Unless your budgeting you could go broke. A friend of mine said a man would spend his last nickel on pussy. Now he is 82 broke living on meager social security in one of 12 houses he and his wife owned when they divorced when hewas 66 and just discovered strip clubbing. Probably has to do w/ socioeconomics - minority communities seem to get afflicted at a higher rate w.r.t. many health conditions as well as other issues - it has to do more w/ the environment/circumstances rather than anything biological, AFAIK.

Per an article previously posted in another thread, porn actors/actresses are required to get tested every 2 weeks and that info is input into a database; that database is checked every time a new scene is shot and if the actor/actress did not test clean then he/she is not allowed to shoot - per that article there hadn't been a recorded transmission of HIV in porn since 2004 if I remember correctly - all the more reason for prostitution to be made legal so a similar strategy could be employed - it's not 100% foolproof but much closer to foolproof than what there is now.

Supposedly with today's meds those that are HIV+ have virus levels so low they are barely detectable if detectable at all, and this leads to much lower ability to transmit if it's transmittable at all - so this is a big help - of course there are the issues of those that don't know they are positive, or don't take their meds as they should, but it seems the available meds due put a big dent on transmission,
