Viral infections, like the Coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause disease in humans, animals and even plants.
However, they are usually eliminated by the immune system, conferring lifetime immunity to the host for that virus.

Usually these kinds of explosive viruses are coming across the species barrier from animals. It was like that for SARs.
This corona I guess is related to SARs. But they say this one came from bats, likely butchering them for food on Wuhan.
They say that it is important to use conditions of greater sanitation in doing this. Likely there was contact with bat blood. Most will not cross the species barrier, but there is still some chance.
The only thing which finally stops the virus is either human immunity developing, or the virus mutates.
