OT: Bernie Sanders

Tuesday, April 16, 2019 7:49 AM
Watched the Bernie Sanders Fox News town hall in Bethlehem, Pa., on Monday evening. Very good night from Bernie Sanders... Performed way better than I had expected... Apart from his age, there was lots of positives from him last night... His responses were solid from Taxes to Immigration including Healthcare... Even the Fox News Town Hall audience mostly Republicans acknowledged support for his Single Payer Health Care System... So far my top three Presidential Candidates are: (A) Joe Biden (B) Kamala Harris (C) Bernie Sanders It seems the 2020 Presidential Election would be decided by independents... Democrats will vote Democrats while Republicans will vote Republicans. However captures the independent votes will emerge as the President of the United States come 2020... Wonder when Donald J Trump will release his last 10 years tax return plus have either an MSNBC Town Hall OR CNN Town Hall... That would definitely help his ratings among Democrats & Independents which is currently in the low 40's... We'll see what happens... November 2020 is still a long way to go...

I'm no political expert but your top three picks seem like re-treds with little chance of winning. I think it would be hard for Biden or Bernie to gain much momentum. Andrew Yang could possibly make a run for the Dems.

I would love to have any of those three win the Democratic nomination. None of them have any chance at all in winning the actual election.

Not going to vote for Bernie but what he did having a town hall meeting on FOX is what the Democrats need to do if they are to have a chance to beat Trump, they need very much to address his audience and his base.

^ I agree, and he presented himself well. Not having Fox involved in any of their primary debates was not a smart move.

That was not a Republican audience. Most raised their hand in favor of single payer health care. Bernie dodged a lot of questions. Why did he only pay 20% in taxes. Why did he only donate 3% to charity. I watched as much as I could stand of his platitudes.

@Mark94 Bernie Sanders paid 26 percent effective tax rate on $561,293 on income... He paid what he is supposed to pay & doesn’t owe IRS any money... Bernie Sanders doesn’t owe any charity any form of donation. He can choose to donate 0% to Charity & still doesn’t matter. That’s his sole decision. I donated 0% to charity this year because I don’t see the need since most tend to enrich themselves instead of working for the common good of the society... I work too hard for my money just like Bernie Sanders to donate it all away to charity...

@Mark94 I’d contend that it’s Trump and his supporters that are not Republicans, the ideological purity test and all that I bet I’ve voted for more Republicans in my life than you would believe, I don’t see these big spenders and big government people as Republicans I see them more as pretenders, let’s get some fiscal responsibility back and let’s start working on things that need to be done

Bernie’s position is that he earned his millions honestly. Meanwhile, he rails against other members of the 1%. So, earning lots of money, building wealthy, and minimizing taxes is just fine for him but the rest of the 1% is greedy and heartless. Glad he cleared that up for us.

-->"Democrats will vote Democrats while Republicans will vote Republicans. However captures the independent votes will emerge as the President of the United States come 2020..." I'm not so sure; these are weird times. There certainly seem many moderate Republicans who would re-think voting for Trump, especially more center-leaning women. That's if the Democrats put up a moderate. I think all bets are off if the Democrats put up a progressive; that could not only drive moderate Republicans back to Trump, but I wonder if it might rally the loony left but also get some moderate Democrats re-thinking their vote.

I hear people bitch about Trump and how they hate him, I have yet to hear a logical reason for that hate given something he has done since being elected. The people that hate him hated him before.... I get it he is an ass.... but he is running the country fairly well. Which makes me think of Urban Meyer or Steve Spurrior, both of those guys I would pay good money to kick in the nuts, I hate them. But if they were my coach I could look past the shit for the success they would bring. I can over look Trump being an ass based on his results
  • twentyfive
^ I disagree I don’t see much in the way of results, the only thing he’s actually accomplished has been a tax cut, which is starting to bite us in the ass corporate tax income has fallen off a cliff there are massive shortfall which are going to lead to more deficit spending, the national debt is rising and we are on the verge of becoming a debtor nation. This is dangerous you’ll see.
  • Daddillac
Energy independence? Unemployment rate? Stock Market? Consumer confidence?.... what are you looking for in results
  • Daddillac
I understand the debt but I also understand debt as a percentage of income. If you took my debt and applied it to DC or any other college age kid it would be way too much but in my income bracket it is relatively low.... So look at debt in relation to income or GNP

Infrastructure not yet, stocks if he’d not started the bullshit with China the Dow would be closer to 30,000 by now the Vic has been all over the place last 8-10 months, consumer confidence, meanwhile durable goods sales are down, autos are down, food prices are up, rents are up consumer confidence doesn’t mean much, the facts are in, the jobs are all that are rising right now, we’ll see if that continues after the summer slowdown inQ 3 & 4

The GOP doesn’t have a healthcare Plan... If they did, Mitch McConnell wouldn’t ask President Donald J Trump to come up with an alternative Healthcare Plan since the Republican Senators didn’t have one laid out... Why did you think President Donald J Trump abandoned they idea of repealing & replacing Obamacare? Because Trump Care or whatever they choose to call it doesn’t enjoy popular support... Obamacare is here to stay for now...

Obamacare is a piece of shit that got passed by a bunch of assholes that wanted to hurry and pass it so they could read it. Some semblance of it is here to stay because it is very hard to put toothpaste back in the tube.... the fact that it is here to stay does not make it good legislation, it just means it is too big of a fucking mess to clean up right now

That town hall audience was VERY HEAVILY democrat party base Bernie supporters. Just because it was hosted by FNC does not mean they packed the audience. Bernie had all this wonderful free shit he wanted to give away, but his only way to pay it was by raising taxes. Over, and over, and over. Wrong fucking thing to say on April 15th. And no, his line about offset cost resulting in overall savings for working families was pure BS.

What progressives usually fail to mention is how much all this "free" stuff will cost in dollars or even personal dignity. The UK's socialism is a good example. In the end, nothing is free. Nothing.

Right now Biden is in the lead in most Dem primary polls, which is why they all started attacking him. Truth be told, he's the only one I'm really worried about from a general election standpoint. Bernie and Kamala have their base supporters for sure, but I cannot imagine either one of them prevailing in a general election. So go get Biden everyone - shame on him for white male privilege, getting handsy with women and what he did to poor Anita Hill. As far as Trump's tax returns, nobody except for hard core Dems gives a shit. But if the House spends the next 18 months pulling the same nonsense that it has for the last 3, they could be in for a big shock come election time.

I'll give him credit for going on FOX, but that's it. Somehow, those the espouse and believe in a socialist agenda. I just can't grasp. Been tried God only knows how many times and worked only never. Take a very recent example, Venezuela. It was an oil rich thriving country, then the socialists took over. Now they eat their dogs!

Socialism is a tried and true failure, so here is a very serious question: How is it that Socialism is becoming so popular in the USA? I'm not looking for rhetoric or finger-pointing. I grew up in the 80s knowing that democratic republics were good and socialism was bad. What changed?

First, Eva, you're a retard and not from America, so it doesn't matter what you think because you can't vote in a presidential election. Also, I totally called it on Biden being a creepy retard that gropes kids. Second, here is what I heard last night. so for reference FN= fox news AM = audience member, and BS = Bernie Sanders yelling and in the voice of Larry David. AM: Senator Sanders, can you describe what socialism is, and why it's so great. BS: That's a great question, an I'm going to answer that. you know a lot of poeple told me not to come on fox news because you don't treat people on my side very fare. FN: ok, but you're here now, so what's your answer, what is socialism and why is it so great. BS: I'm going to tell you, just stop yelling at me. FN: I'm sorry, what's happening right now, Senator the floor is yours, this seems like it's your baby, tell us why it's so great? BS: Democratic socialism as it's called...you see in America, the top 2% of the population own 95% of the wealth, and someone working 40 hours a week shouldn't live in poverty. FN: ok??? so just give it another shot, maybe something where you talk about how it works, does it distribute the 2% wealth around, or do you have to also distribute the wealth of the middle class. BS: Education is a right and students in america should not graduate from collage with so much debt. FN: Ok, we'll get to education, how about one more crack at socialism? Can you spell it at least? How about just one little fact that helps your argument that it's what we want to replace capitalism with. BS: The rich in this country are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. FN: ??????is this guy fucking retarded?? ok, lets just go into taxes. FN: Senator Sanders your tax returns that you recently released showed that you benefited from the Trump tax cut. BS: I voted against Trumps tax cut. FN: But you benefited from it, and you think the top 2% should pay more, which you are part of, so why didn't you pay more? BS: Maybe you should pay more, you probably make more than me, I paid what I was required to pay. What's with all the tough questions here fox news, everyone told me you were all pieces of shit. FN: But you could have paid extra. BS: Why didn't you pay extra? FN: Because I'm not a fucking socialist!!!! is this guy fucking serious right now? FN: It also showed you only gave 3% to charity, being that you think we should live in a society where we help each other, why didn't you give more to charity. BS: I'm happy with how much we donated to charity. Donald trump is a pathological liar and should release his taxes. There are billionaires in this country and 30 million Americans that don't have health insurance. FN: ok! health care, lets dive into that. You'd like to see a single payer system, but many of our viewers wrote us and wanted to ask you, how are you going to pay for medicare for all? BS: we shouldn't live in a society where the top 1% makes more than the bottom 90% FN: ok....but how are you going to pay for medicare for all? BS: Medicare is a program for seniors and they love it, and don't want to go away. Under my program that would be free for everyone. FN: Right??? but how would you pay for 180 million Americans that will have to give up their employer paid insurance to go onto your plan. BS: A person should not work 40 hours a week and be in poverty in america, and the pharmaceutical companies in this country make billions selling prescriptions to the US, and they don't charge the rest of the world as much as they charge Americans. FN: ok, but you need to come up with a way to pay for this, how would you do it, would you raise taxes on everyone, including the middle class? BS: I never said healthcare would be free FN: Yes you just did, you literally just did like 26 seconds ago. BS: well, it's free when you need to use it. you won't have a copay, so that part is free. FN: but it will it be funded by everyone's tax dollars? BS: Billionaires in this country should not be able to keep making wealth while the bottom 90% live in poverty. FN: ?????what the fu???? BS: Donald Trump lies about where his father is from, he says he's from Germany when he was born in New York! FN: I don't know what's happening right now, Senator Sanders, are you feeling ok? BS: It's not about who's too old, it's about who has the best ideas for america. clearly this is a man of many many fantastic ideas...if you are just poor and hate anyone that makes more money than you. I would actually LOVE an election that comes down to Capitalism vs Communi...I'm mean the National Socialist Workers Party...I mean Democratic Socialism. Especially with trump as the face as Capitalism and that old Muppet's that was always in the theater balcony as the face of Socialism. also Eva, go fuck yourself, no one on this site likes you except the few people that are collectively hated by everyone else.

Colleges and high school have become indoctrination camps, not centers of education. Students are trained to parrot ideas like white privilege. They are discouraged from doing any thinking on their own.

You claim its indoctrination coz they're not indoctrinating kids with right wing propaganda anymore. The US is finally waking up and evolving. Too bad you still think like dinosaurs. And also, you're contradicting yourselves.... You claim socialists are unelectable yet claim the country is going socialist. Make your minds up.

With all of this talk about politics has anyone here listened to what Bill Weld is saying, he’s made some great points about the debt, and he slammed Trumps constant attacking of our institutions, his remarks that investigations do not equal spying were right on the money in my opinion, especially those investigations initiated br the justice department or the FBI, I don’t know if he has a chance in this political climate, but he’s a Republican and he is challenging Trump, if he can get enough support to force a primary that will be interesting.
  • rickdugan
^Bill who? ;) It's hard to run a serious campaign when you have no campaign money and I doubt that there will be many serious Republican donors lining up, nor will he have any support from the national party. The Republican Party understands that primary challenges weaken incumbent Presidents and their parties and are a gift to the opposition party. This is also the same guy who endorsed Obama in 2008 and ran in 2016 on the Libertarian Party ticket, so his Republican Party bona fides are not exactly strong.

@Dugan you’re becoming like the sound that one hears of one hand clapping. You’re in such a rush to slam me you didn’t even read what I actually wrote, try to keep a little perspective instead of mischaractarizing everything anyone posts to suit your agenda.

Rick, so you think money should dictate who gets elected? You think a person should tote the party line and do what the rich want? That's a plutocracy....
  • rickdugan
25, I wasn't slamming you or anyone else, merely adding my own opinions about Weld's chances. I read what you wrote, but just wasn't interested enough in Bill Weld's opinions on anything to really comment. I know Weld's political history well and he is, first and foremost, an opportunist. He is a libertarian right until it's convenient for him not to be. It worked for him in MA as a purported Republican who managed to get elected to a governorship in one of the most liberal states in the country, but there is a reason why he has done nothing on the national scene since leaving the post over 20 years ago.
  • rickdugan

Icey, no I do not think that money should dictate who becomes President, but the "facts on the ground" are that you cannot run a political campaign without it.
