Trump Honoring Vets

Everything written by this member is a fact.
I was sent a PM this morning. I won't tell who sent it and am editing the text slightly to help keep the sender anonymous.

Something I'd like to point out to all of the Trumptards here on the board, Veteran's Day just passed and not a single one of you noted that your president, did nothing at all to commemorate the day, not a trip to Arlington, not an announcement, nothing. Why don't you make a post about that?

Does anyone want to chime rebutting the claim that he "did nothing at all to commemorate the day"?

I think he canceled his speech due to bad weather. That’s actually very sad.

No offense to the commander and chief, but I think that was a poor choice.

The canceled trip (because of fog that grounded Marine 1) was on Saturday, Nov. 10, not on Veterans Day, which is Nov. 11. On Sunday, Nov. 11, he commemorated Veterans Day by traveling to and speaking at another American Cemetary in France. Yesterday was not Veterans Day. It was just a day off for federal workers. So your claim is rebutted.

I was incorrect. Thank you for the correction DrEvil.

The author of the PM is another useful idiot who believes everything the fake news media tells him.

The holiday is held on November 11 if it falls on a Saturday it’s observed on Friday, if it falls on a Sunday it’s observed on Monday. Fact remains that our Comman in Chief passed on the traditional honors at Arlington where they held a ceremony on Monday, another fact Trump is the only Commander in Chief in recent memory that has NEVER visited a single troop in harms way in a foreign theater of operations. Defending him is wrong and reeks of false patriotism, this man is a coward and a braggart, no more, all if you so called conservatives are really just right wingers not conservatives.

Sorry Trump haters, you’re wrong again. The official Veterans Day observance is Nov. 11, regardless of what day federal employees might get off from work. Just like if Independence Day falls on a Sunday, federal employees get July 5th off, but that doesn’t make July 5th Independence Day, and it’s not celebrated with fireworks on July 5th. This year the official Veterans Day observance was on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington, while Trump was still in France commemorating the event at the American cemetary (or maybe in the air on the way back). Do you want to criticize him for not being in two places at the same time?

I've actually been a proponent of changing the observation of Independence Day to a Friday (and the Superbowl to a Saturday). Having the fourth of July on Tu-Th just sucks the momentum out of a work week. You are also kept up until all hours by fireworks, trying to drive home from a fireworks show, or both.

It's the same thing with a Superbowl, everyone dragging in hungover, sick, or pissed off. At least have kickoff at an earlier hour. Why does it have to be primetime?

@Dr Evil, Maybe it wasn’t clear from what I said, there was an observance and ceremony on Monday as well but my main point was for all of his bullshit about how he supports the military under his command he is the only sitting president of the last three that has never visited the troops in a theater of operation where hostilities are taking place. That was the main thrust of my statement.

I do agree with Superbowl Saturday.

But there is significance to the days in which Independence Day and Veterans Day are observed. To make it convenient for a holiday would be disrespectful.

I think I'm missing half the conversation or he's arguing with himself. I can guess which of the bigoted haters I have on ignore who he is schooling. Doctorevil, you are wasting your time trying to explain logic and facts to idiots who prefer innuendo and fake news. As Robert Heinlein said, "Never teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig."

That's a dead on analogy when you consider the pigs in George Orwell's Animal Farm and their similarity to our own liberal hatemongers.

Fuck disrespect, flagooner. I want my three-day weekend! Look at Martin Luther King Day. Born 1/15/29, being observed 1/21/19. Casmir Pulaski Day (I grew up in Chicago), born 3/6/1745; observed the first Monday of March. Columbus Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day. Christmas was moved to accomodate the Pagan Yule Holiday! My point is that there is ample precedence to change the observance of Independence Day to a day other than the fourth of July.

@Gammanu: those 2 holidays (Veterans Day and Independence Day) are locked into specific days because of what happened on those respective dates. They signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th and shooting ended at 11AM on the 11th of November to end hostilities during World War 1. That is why those dates should never be changed. To follow your suggestion, should we move Christmas if it falls on a Tuesday thru Thursday?

I do agree that changing the Superbowl would make getting up for work on Monday a whole hell of a lot easier.

I’m not talking about convince November 11 is and always will be armistice day, but the holiyhas changed it is now Veterans Day, and why would the Commander in Chief pass up an opportunity to honor those who have served. As far as the Fourth of July (Independence Day) is concerned the Declaration of Independence was signed over a long period of time I don’t remember exactly but I believe the final signatures were added several months later.
Gamanut go fuck your bigoted little porch monkey self.

The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776. Or the first Thursday of July. They started celebrating the 4th so keep it that way.

The Armistace to end WWI was signed on Nov. 11, 1918. So we celebrate it then.
In an effort to boost economic stimulation with a long weekend, in 1968 Congress made certain federal holidays, including Veterans Day, fall on a Monday. From 1971 until 1977, Veterans Day was officially celebrated on the fourth Monday of October. There was a public outcry against the move in 1975, and then-President Gerald Ford signed a law that returned Veterans Day to November 11 beginning in 1978.

Presidents Day. Were all of our presidents born on the same day? What specific day do you suggest?

Memorial Day. What is being disrespected by having that always on a Monday? Were all soldiers who were killed in action killed on the same day?

MLK and Columbus Days? Stupid to have those as national holidays anyway.

I would actually prefer to have the observance of Boxing Day in the US, just as in Canada and the UK. It would be great if we could separate the religious importance of the Messiah's birth from the sickening and gratuitous commercialism that has permeated the season. It's peace on Earth, and good will towards men; not pepper spray that bitch who's grabbing the last $99 playstation 4, and stomp the toddler that's holding the last furby.

We do celebrate Boxing Day. Traditionally all the English Premier League teams play that day making for a pleasant day in front of the television.
