Happened last Monday but I figured I'd post it since there's been so much talk about the recent Dennis Hof passing.
Co-founder of MicroSoft so dude's been loaded since his 30s and seemed to live-it-up at one time owning the largest private yacht in the world and currently owning the NFL Seattle Seahawks and NBA Portland Trailblazers - he was a lifelong bachelor so I wonder who's gonna get his billions.
Comments
last commentHe got a perfect 1600 on his SATs and dropped out of college. Gates was also a college dropout

Glad you posted that Papi, I meant to earlier in the week then it slipped my mind, he was an innovator and as you pointed out he led a full life even though he passed too young.
RIP

I think he's already given away 2 billion and the bulk of his estate goes to charity.

He was slightly younger than me. And slightly richer.

Paul Allen saved the Seahawks. If you don’t know anything about him you should google. He did so much for Seattle and was a philanthropist as much as Bill Gates. We are sad in WA.

^ yup. he was passionate about the seahawks/football and music. when he bought the team.....it stopped them from moving to los angeles.

I grew up playing with every single buggy operating system that Microsoft put out. To a certain extent Gates and Allen were just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Someone had to rule the desktop of personal computers.
The best part is that these two guys are (were?) dedicated to changing the world with their philanthropy.

Also Gates was lucky to have an attorney father. They introduced the software licensing agreement, without which it would have been impossible to enforce copyrights and copy protection, as the purchase would have entailed common ownership.
Gates had more behind him than just being in the right place at the right time.
Fortunately because of the FreeSoftware Foundation, the entire industry, including Gates, has gotten more honest.
As far as Gates and his philanthropy, and Warren Buffet and Sam Walton, fuck that. Its just neoliberalism, a fast lane to fascism.

@SJG: "Also Gates was lucky to have an attorney father. "
Good point, but anyone with a rich father is at a huge advantage. And it's more the copyright laws themselves that made Gates filthy rich.
Compare Gates to Trump and Trump Sr, who defrauded the government out of over $400 million in inheritance taxes. Trump's basically a loser with a rich Dad and a perfect example why we need an inheritance in the first place. The estate tax is repealed as of 2024 because of the recent tax reform.

Gates, with his father, figured out who to make laws against duplication and alternative use enforceable. Remember, Gates was writing stuff against amateur software writers who would distribute their stuff for free.
Gates has been a real bad actor.
What has changed things are Linux and the Free Software Foundation.
