Usually toward my knee, but sometimes I'll arrange for him to point north, toward my belt. That direction makes it easy for a dancer to produce a happy ending, if she's positioned just right. If you are talking "arranging", I usually just tuck him inside my sock, never mind which leg.
According to porn, penises point up or out when erect, and some men have a banana bend to them. I think straight-up erections (like, an inch from the navel) would be a disadvantage for most positions but an extreme advantage for doggie-style and some forms of cowgirl. I think straight-out erections (like, at right angle to the vertical body axis) would be excellent for receiving oral and manual. I think everyone is geared for pleasure. :)
