The cops actually said something funny: "Five girls arrested in one night? That’s not a strip club. It's a brothel with music."

The joke is on those cops! Clearly, the strippers only did that with them and every other guy paid the same amount just to talk about books in the champagne room.

This is not really about prostitution so much as it is about the ongoing battle between the club and the Queens Community Board #2.
In NYC, community boards are considered local advisory arms of the city government. However, the term "advisory" is a misnomer as they are often the deciding bodies for zoning matters and have heavy influence over whether an establishment can get a liquor license.
Queens CB #2 has been fighting the Show Palace since long before it opened, preventing them from getting a liquor license for years. And when that finally failed, they got the cops to do their dirty work for them. Queens CB #2 has been active in the gentrification of the part of Long Island City served by the Queensboro Plaza metro stop, which is the first stop after Manhattan for many train lines, and strip clubs do not fit in with their vision for that area.
They already got the old Cityscapes out of a prime location and, with Show Palace on the ropes, all that will be left is Scandals. In fact, Scandals has also had its problems with the police and was forced to close for a while. I am actually shocked that they re-opened, but I suspect it is only a matter of time before they are targeted again too.
