I tried weed for the first time as an adult (at 50+) a couple weeks ago and the results were not pretty. I was stupid and tried too much. I'll try again, cause I recovered pretty quickly and didn't have any bad after effects, like I would have had if I had been drunk to the same level of incapacity.

Of course booze is worse for you; everyone knows that. I remember smoking weed at age 14 as a form of rebellion. Unless you're going through a second-adolescence, or you need to escape from a career that's mind-numbing boredom, I don't understand the excitement.

Alcohol, Street Drugs, Born Again Christianity, and Psychiatric Medications are all pretty much the same and used for the same reasons. SJG Pink Floyd [view link]

I never tried alcohol or weed until I was in my early 30's. I smoked cigars for about two years after high school but quit when I realized I was addicted and I didn't like not being in control. When I moved to WA, weed was legal so I finally tried it last year. I bought some edibles and followed the advice I was given to slowly dose up until you found your high. I took me a couple of tries but I found a really good high and like it much more than alcohol. It costs about the same as getting drunk from good bourbon and although I may be tired the next day, I don't have a hangover or feel like shit like I sometimes do with alcohol. A good marijuana edible high for me lasts pretty intensely for 3-4 hours before I go to sleep and it also takes away the pain in my knees from years of basketball. I smoked weed once this last summer but the high didn't last as long and I didn't like the cigarette-like feeling in my lungs again, plus the smoke got on my clothes.

The DS introduced me to weed, and I love her for it. Joc13 PM me if you're interested in weed tips for beginners.

Coming from a 21 year old...who has been 21 for 4 days....I would say alcohol. However when I did use weed I would eat it to share my lungs the negative effects. The issue with eating something is it takes awhile to take effect so you won't know if you took to much until it's already hitting you. As a recovering addict I avoid all of it but would say from a health standpoint weed is better is ingested instead of smoked. We also know a LOT more about the negative effects of alcohol then we do weed. ;)

Hmm, sounds like I should investigate the edibles route. Actually, saw a news report on pot laced coffee. Two gives at one time.

I've found the best way to have edibles is to eat lunch like normal at work and not eat anything until dinner (usually between 6 and 8 PM for me. While I'm preparing dinner on an empty stomach, I enjoy 6 or 7 5 mg THC mints (30-35 mg total) and then eat after those are all gone. If I eat at 6, I know I'm going to be buzzing pretty good by 8. My tolerance builds up really fast, so I don't usually do it more than twice per week. I make sure it's on an evening when I'm staying in for the night, usually the night after a basketball game when I know my knees are going to be a little sore.

If you ask me, while booze is more the drug of choice here, in the right circumstances booze and weed are mutually syncronistic in a wonderful way. :) Double your pleasure, double your fun!

FWIW, in the organization I am building there will be no alcohol, tobacco, street drugs, psychiatric medications, or Born Again Christianity. There really can't be, because we want the group to be cohesive and we want people to be tuned in and effective in what they do. And we want them to have long and healthy lives. sc, Since I was always subject to random drug testing, booze was it for me, except for a short time after my first retirement. At that time at my little part time endeavor, many Fridays after work the boss and the rest of us would do some weed and drink beer. Mostly drink beer. Never really felt the weed affected me much at all. Never used it by itself, anyway.

Remind me that I want NO part of SJG's organization. I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment.

Clubber - I was subject to random alcohol and drug testing during the last 20+ years of my career and I probably got test about 15 times. There was a zero tolerance policy in effect. Only knew 1 guy to fail and get fired.

sc, Can't speak for you, but it never bothered me that I could smoke. What DID bother me was having to take drug tests when a couple of AHOLES :) tail ended my company vehicle. If I hit them, no problem with a test.

Booze is much worse and this has been proven scientifically. I don't want to debate with anyone about this because it's not really debatable, but if someone wants to argue let's argue. Health wise, weed wins. Period.

I'd be weary of pot-laced coffee. Caffeine and I are not friends, nor am I friends with any stimulant for that matter. SJG, I mean no ill-will and I'm sure you are a great guy... but CAN YOU SHUT UP? ARE YOU CAPABLE OF SHUTTING UP, FINALLY?

Nina also thinks, despite what every expert and this article state, that we've done plenty of research into marijuana. Like most things in life, take them both in moderation and you'll probably be fine.
  • NinaBambina

Stop fuckin speaking for me. The only reason weed research has been limited the last century or so is because of yellow journalism stating blantant fallacies such as, "smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother." In the last couple decades, marijuana research has skyrocketed, and I bet about 97% of scientists would agree with "Nina" that weed is less harmful than alcohol.

Who spanked me, doctorphil? Specify. And no, definitely not afraid of revenge porn. LMAO. Aren't you like afraid of like ME? Shut up, bitch. I'll revenge-porn the fuck out of you. I'll shoot your nuts with a stick like pool balls while shoving an actual pool stick up your ass and then eat your brains for breakfast --- someone has to put em to good use. Go fuck your cousin now. You're dismissed.

So has there been plenty of research or limited research? Look you were wrong. Throwing a little tantrum and name calling won't change that. IMO people like you hurt legalization efforts. Get educated, really educated, not just the pro-pot propaganda that every 15 year old stoner knows. Then maybe we'll all be toking up legally in a few years.

That's hilarious because I was actually one of the few (handful) of people who went door to door talking to strangers and actually got weed decriminalized in a suburb of Detroit. So stop right there, you misinformed, judgmental, sanctimonious asshole.

I still see you being a punk ass bitch, though. And you had the audacity to imply that I am the reason weed is *not* legalized? I'm a pioneer of the decriminalization of weed, as I already illustrated. I've gotten weed decriminalized in an entire city. Furthermore, yet unrelated, I had calloused hands because I campaigned on election day here in MI in not one but two cities; one for my aunt, and one for my friend from high school. What have YOU done for your community? Cuz I've done a hell of a lot you worthless ho. I AM THAT BITCH, your insults don't phase me negatively. Every insult I get here is like a compliment to my wonderful heart.

Another angry rant and still no answer to my question. Unless you're a lot older than I think you are, you're not a "pioneer" for decriminalization. Seriously, get some real education on the matter.
  • NinaBambina

You're a dumbass. I AM a pioneer of getting weed decriminalized in a Detroit suburb, you FUCKING spiteful bitch. Literally went door to door to educate people on the advantages of weed, which got it on the ballot, and eventually was voted by the residents of the city (via, ya know, democracy) so it became decriminalized. You have no idea what you are talking about. Many suburbs around here have only decriminalized weed for the last few years. I'm a Michigander, this is NOT something you want to go toe to toe with me on. Also, are you from Michigan? Did you spend your entire November 7th outside in the cold, campaigning for various people? I didn't see you, so I doubt it. Shut the fuck up, or else you're trying to know me and I guarantee you if you keep trying to know me, you will, and it won't be pretty.

They decriminalized it in Ann Arbor 45 years ago, you're not a pioneer. Another angry rant and still no answer to my question.

I didn't decriminalized it in Ann Arbor, you dumbass. And Ann Arbor is where U of M is, it's not a fucking suburb of Detroit. Get with it. Oh and by the way, the "Michigan Marijuana Law" in Ann Arbor was passed I'm 2008 and I had nothing to do with that, I was probably still in high school at the time and scared shirtless to smoke weed.

Thank you ppwh. Jester is nothing but a hater. I'm out here working for my communities; the surburban area of Detroit includes the tri-county area, in which Ann Arbor is NOT located --- I believe that would be Washtenaw county. Jester's dumbass can't even research correctly. Waive that white flag high, jester. Waive it to completion, bitch.

  • ppwh

    > Okay it's moot. Answer it. I know I'm not as pretty as Nina, but thousands of years of human use of weed is more meaningful to me than what scientists who can't differentiate what type of cells they're doing research on come up with. IMO, a better question would be about soy which has only been in food supplies for a couple of thousand years, and in the traditional Asian diets, 2 teaspoons max per day.

With all the research weed is defiantly better. That said edibles and extracts take that to another level. Also with the opiate issue it's much better than what people are currently medicating with. Legalize and tax it I don't smoke weed, but I do live in Michigan and would vote to complete legalization. The anti weed PR about it being a gateway drug is finally ending.

    > Most drugs have always been made from plants, as also is ethanol. Made from plants vs. is a plant are two different things. Coca is a plant that has been safely used since prehistoric times. Cocaine will likely give you a heart attack, fuck up your nose and drive you to steal shit.

^truth. And who said some smart ass remark about me running out munchies? Wtf kind of insult is that? Of course I don't run out of munchies. Last night before I smoked, I went the 7/11 and got some spicy pickles, then to the Filipino market and got 6 packs of instant Pancit Canton and two packs of Pocky.
