Other Tampa-St. Pete attractions

In a brilliant place!
raytripp's tread made me think of the ATL vs TPA benefits.

My original question of "is Follies really better than the Tampa-St. Pete area clubs?" still holds but I was thinking of other brilliant things about the Tampa-St. Pete area.

Tampa itself seems like a bit of a hole, but I like St. Pete. The Dali is ace! St. Pete beach is beautiful and if I had a vacation home it would be there. There are wonderful natural areas north of the area, once you get past the strip mall that is much of 19. I've always wanted to watch the mermaid show in Wiki Watchee. And down south to Sarasota on the key with St. Armand's is also brilliant.

Within Tampa proper, near downtown on the U Tampa campus, there is a museum that was a gilded age hotel. Fascinating place, though not that big. crazyjoe would love it. In those days there was only on toilet per three rooms. And I bet they were easy to clog.

Atlanta has more attractions as a big city. The only club I've been to in Atlanta is Tattletales (I was busy during the day when I was there and wasn't interested in Follies at night given the description). Papi_Chulo is right regarding prices at Tattletales. But it's only money. Fun > Money. In fact, the only point of having money is to have fun!

But I say Tampa-St. Pete is much nicer. Perhaps it is just that I have friends there. But it seems much nicer than Atlanta. You're a lucky man raytripp! Count your blessings!

Having been to Atlanta, I would never want to live there. I hate traffic. Commuting and business travel is one of the big reasons I'm selling and downsizing. Tampa has pretty bad traffic as well, but the proximity to the beaches can't be beat. It's also a smaller city, therefore better maintained and governed than Atlanta.

The only thing I prefer about Atlanta over Tampa is topography. I find the flatness of the gulf coast to be painfully dull. That and Tampa's policies mutually excluding booze and nudity.

I'm learning from your detailed explanations. I've been wondering if the Tampa area might be a place to consider for retirement. I'm not looking currently, and I'm not looking for a retirement community, but it seems like a comfortable beach location.

It might be off topic for the site - but it is an interesting discussion.

Neither? Wow I’ve been debating all morning amongst myself - hypothetically if I got transferred and had to pick one of these two cities which would I pick?

If it wasn’t for the nearby beaches I’d pick Atlanta, but the beach throws in a monkey wrench.

But the beaches are on the gulf, no waves.

@ shailynn west coast Florida is more of a retirement community it’s cheaper and slower I prefer east coast a hell of a lot more to do. That said I have been to St Pete Beach I like the Don Caesar or The Tradewinds Resort. But there isn’t much to do at night.

I lived in the historic section of Tampa for 10 years. Loved it!

twentyfive, that's a good point. Although there is a dog beach near St. Pete beach and little 4got finds it brilliant!

Truth be told, little 4got is a bit freaked out by water. But many dog lovers would find a nice dog beach to be ace! :)
