I spent 20 days in Mexico in May. Mexico City, Oaxaca, Palenque, Merida, Tulum. None of these places was as dangerous as Detroit.
It's smart to be situationally aware whenever you travel (foreign or domestic), and be at least minimally prepared for something bad happening.
But unless a destination lights up red in a CIA travel advisory, the overwhelming odds are that you'll be fine.
These incidents have to be hurting Mexico's tourism industry. I've talked to people who hear these reports and say they will not go south of the border. The fucking Mexican government needs to do something about this shit. Do these clowns not realize how many tourism dollars this is costing them?
Most of the Mexican government officials are on the cartel's payroll.
