Cellphones

Wednesday, July 12, 2017 3:15 PM
Why do some clubs ban cellphones? Some of the reasons I have heard include: Copyright issues whereas some may try to rebroadcast performances Dancer anonymity whereas dancers may not want proof that they dance Patron anonymity whereas patrons may not want proof that they patronize Legal issues whereas clubs don't want proof that they are bending the law Minimize OTC whereas clubs want to make it hard for patrons and dancers to exchange contact info Are any of these issues worth the potential loss of business. I personally feel very uncomfortable without my phone. There are a lot of well paying fields that require employees to carry cellphones 24/7 (e.g. medicine, IT)

The biggest reason I've heard was that guys were taking pictures, videos, snaps inside the club. I think the club discouraging OTC would be the second biggest reason I've heard. Creekside Cabaret claims it's disrespectful to the dancers by being on your phone while in their club.

I don't personally take my phone in the club, because I am there to play not answer calls. To exchange digits, just have the dancer call your number. That way you both have it in recent call list. I would like to see the dancers put the phones away while on the floor. Unless they are answering calls to their escort line!!!

I haven't run into that yet. I'm surprised there wasn't a stripper revolt. Lol Banning cellphones is not going to stop phone number exchange. Just go old school with a table napkin or writing their number on a patrons hand.

Yes, they don't want anyone talking pictures. It is to satisfy the concerns of the dancers. Some clubs do try to prohibit the exchanging of contact info as well. SJG

I've never been to a club that bans cellphones, but I have been to several clubs where they ask you to keep it in your pocket when you are in any areas where the dancers could be naked. The reasons were already mentioned. The club wanting to protect the privacy of their dancers would be the main reason.

"... guys were taking pictures, videos, snaps inside the club ..." I would think this is the most common reason But I think this is also a major reason: "... Legal issues whereas clubs don't want proof that they are bending the law ..."

The PGC, MD clubs have been having issues w/ the local authorities over the last couple of years and now many ban cell phones in the club

I doubt the clubs care about strippers exchanging contact info, that usually works to their benefit, more likely privacy issues regarding camera use, like proof of illegal acts being committed more probable.

25, some clubs do care if customers and dancers are exchanging phone numbers. If guys can do OTC, they will no longer come to the club. The club does not make money off drinks, cover, bracelets, etc. If dancers are doing OTC, they are not coming in to work and paying shift fees/tipout. Also, I've seen clubs get busted when they knowingly allow dancers to solicit inside there club. Similarly, alot of clubs in the US do not like unaccompanied women coming in because they think they are going to solicit male patrons.

^^^I see a lot more texts from strippers trying to get dudes into the clubs than strippers trying to arrange OTC I disagree completely. Not just strippers but I know several bartenders that send text blasts every day trying to get customers in.

one time i witnessed a guy take a pic in the strip club and the staff caught him and made him delete it lol. but they didn't throw him out the club. that's kinda embarrassing IMO

25, PL's are not sending texts blasts in the club. They are trying to get OTC hookups.

As already said mostly because some idiot customers take photos and videos in the club with their cellphones.

I never said PLs were sending text blasts @sinclair, you can believe what you like the clubs aren't worried about strippers stopping work to do OTC with any great frequency, some do, but most are so flaky, they couldn't make it work well enough to give up dancing. I'm sure that has no bearing on their policies.

I think dancers/custies exchanging #s out in the open is more common these days - back in the day it seemed dancers were more cautious - there may still be some clubs that are strict about this

Sinclair has seen more clubs across the USA than most people combined in this thread. I will add this, there are many clubs out there that could give two shits when a PL whips out his phone, back in the pre-cellphone days at times clubs would even give you a pen and paper at the bar to exchange numbers with a dancer. With that being said, I have been to SEVERAL clubs where it is an absolute SIN to have your cellphone out in front of a stripper as they are afraid it will look like they are trying to set up OTC (think: solicit prostitution) which is a quick fire-able offense at some clubs. I've had strippers make me memorize their phone number when I was leaving so I could immediately enter it into my phone when I exited the club. Yeah that only worked about 60% of the time because most days I can't even remember my own phone number.

@papi Oasis is strict about it. Dancers can't have phones out on floor, and when I've gotten numbers, I always turn so bouncers are less likely to notice. Follies on other hand seems to have no rules. Dancers have their phones out all the time. I've heard several complaints about people filming and taking pics and bouncers not stopping them. Earlier today, me and a dancer both having our phones out led to a humorous moment which led to something much better (post coming soon).

Here in the Motor City it's not a problem if you're on the phone. I love having mine in the club just in case a fulgie is coming my way lol. But I haven't experienced any clubs that won't let you have them out. Awhile ago I was out with a group of people and one of those dumbasses was standing up on Snapchat recording the fuckin strippers. Safe to say the bouncers put his ass out and the group made him wait until we were finished

Exchanging contact info, really. Are pen and paper completely obsolete?

I've never seen it enforced, even when posted. When enforced, it is to prevent pics and videos of dancers and patrons being posted online or used for blackmail.

I've never seen it be an issue at the clubs I go to. Dancers have there phones out all the time, texting, exchanging numbers, whatever. On a rare occasion I've even seen PLs taking pics and vids of girls on the main stage, lol. I always assumed they would want to stop people from taking pics and vids of the girls. Maybe they do stop it, but the times I noticed the bouncers and managers didn't. The texting, and number exchanges are definitely normal from what I've seen though.

I was told by a bouncer friend of mine several reasons, but the biggest to hamper OTC. He did tell me to get around that prior to going to the club write your number on a few pieces of paper and have them in your pocket. Then all you have to do is slip it to the dancer and tell her to text you when she goes back to the dressing room.

I do agree, though, dancers should be on their phones at a minimum when out on floor areas

It's mostly for the dancers safety. Same reason dancers don't use their real names and why a lot of clubs will ask a dancer if their are people they want on the list to not be aloud in. It's safety reasons and for privacy
