Solid Gold Ft. Lauderdale re-opening

gammanu95
My casual drinking is your alcohol poisoning.
Solid Gold, formerly of Oakland Park, is re-opening as Thee Solid Gold of Ft. Lauderdale, with a Pompano Beach address. They are advertising theme rooms, a sky bar, and even a jacuzzi. While I'm looking forward to seeing what they put together, I think I'd feel safer sitting in a petri dish at USAMRIID than I would a jacuzzi at Thee Solid Gold. The rest of it could be worth checking out.

I'd be interested to see their cover charge.

This is the location of several failed stripclubs. Including a club featuring male dancers.

This place and Crazy Horse/Pink Pony/Gold Club in Pompano seemed to startup during the housing bubble. By the time Crazy Horse opened the bubble burst.

Going so high end seems even that much more likely to fail.

It was more of a party club with strippers and it just looks like more of the same, although it was part of The Micheal Peters Entertainment group that had a lock on strip clubs in Fort Lauderdale, back when there were a lot of clubs there.

Which is why gaymanu happened to be in the area.

Jacuzzi? After the first night, the things you could find with a microscope in that water could be makings of a horror/zombie movie.

Fort Lauderdale killed contact in the early 80's and thus killed strip clubbing.

They're labelling themselves Ft Lauderdale, but showing a Pompano Beach address. The reviews of nearby clubs indicate that's a high mileage area, so they'll have to match that to stay competitive.
Good point by flagooner, the cover charge could be very high to cover all the amenities.

According to this site there are currently 15 stripclubs in Broward County(I removed a few I don't consider stripclubs).
    Davie 1
Ft Laud 1 (a recent reopening)
    Hallandale 3
    Lauderhill 1
Oakland Park 1 (in the process of being shutdown)
Pompano 7 (currently 7 plus Solid Gold)
    Sunrise 1
(I guess Hallandale is part of Broward but I always consider it part of Miami/Dade Cty)

Regardless Hallandale and Pompano are at opposite ends of the county. Pompano is clearly the easiest place to operate a stripclub in Broward County.

Also probably means hardest to startup a successful new club with 7 existing ones(would u open a burger joint next to a McD and Burger King). Of those 7 I consider 3 successful(Cheetahs, Diamond Dolls, Booby Trap). All 3 are close to each other. Of the other ones: Porthole Pub, Club Pink, 4 Play are smallish clubs with low end girls. Gold Club is a big club that opens and closes frequently and will never succeed.

I predict Solid Gold does equally bad as the other club with Gold in the name.

You're welcome for this expert breakdown!

^ so you're saying they're shutting down Pure Platinum in Oakland Park, or assuming they're going to

^^^ I think the consent decree that MPEnterprises signed with the city of Fort Lauderdale several years ago requires them to shut operations down in the city by a certain date in 2017.

There was a club in Atlanta called Taj Mahal that had a pool. I really liked it. Liked the whole club. Really miss it.

My understanding is that PP was under the same sunset ruling as SG, and should have closed at the same time; or at least turned to a no-touch bikini bar. Through whatever legal wrangling, the owners have kept it open. I'm hoping to check it out later this month.

As I understand it Pure Platinum is shutting down. I don't have any inside info or anything, as I understand it the DJ is announcing it along with promoting Solid Gold at the old Lions Den/Centerfolds/Swinging Richards spot. The new Solid Gold was supposed to open this past Friday, but as I understand it it won't be till the 16th now.

I'm not expecting much, but I club in that area often and I'll certainly stop by once they open. I'll probably give them a few tries. I never enjoyed the FLL location, so my expectations are low. If they think they can be a Fort Lauderdale club in Pompano, which their advertising thus far suggests, it'll suck.

One of the advertisements is "world-class nudity with friction", that's incredibly vague yet oddly detailed at the same time, LOL. I can't figure out what they're alluding to. With all the different theme rooms and amenities, it almost seems like an American FKK club, but we know that will never fly.

From their facebook page posts, it seems the opening dates were finally happened 15 and 16 June. We'll have to see what this new iteration of the club ends up being. The SG at Oakland Park was good for an "upscale" club (by Broward standards) but how upscale can you stay in Pompano is to be seen.

Have not been but another SoFlo TUSCLer PMed that a friend of his went and that the club is gorgeous

I stopped by for their "VIP Sneak Preview" - the club is nice, but it was nice when it was Centerfolds. The problem was pretty immediate though, there were a number of snobby customers, then a number of blue collar guys and no one looked comfortable. Unfortunately, they had zero strippers so I didn't learn much other than its physically a really nice club.

Huh, may have to have to drop by next time I'm in SoFla just to say I saw it. And yeah like I said, there would be an issue with what market you tap -- the old prime location on US1 by itself tended to drive up the demographics.

Their online presence has a lot of self congratulatory content originated by themselves but not much feedback yet. There's talk of having a rooftop terrace lounge by October and having a second opening then. MJP seems to be going ambitious in his late years.

^@gammanu95 if it's anything like the old SG it means they are promising finer strippers and good-mileage dances. At the old place it would not be unusual to get an offer for very expensive "value-added-services". Anyway "themed" VIP rooms are not unknown in American strip clubs, just as another gimmick to charge more than usual.

Looking at the video on their FB page it looks extremely upscale. More like a nightclub than a stripclub. I even saw a piano...yes a piano...and maybe a chandelier.

I'm used to bar top video games, sticky floors and woobly chairs.

Not sure, but I think they also had a piano at their old location and they tended to go for the upscale look with skinny whitechicks wearing gown type outfits (at least per my visit in the mid-2000s)

^@Papi. The piano and gowns were there during my 2015 visit as well, and also at PP

Righto, there was more than one piano and it was a gown/whitechick club all along.

Looking at the map, it's a stone's throw from the Cheetah/DD/BT cluster, in the opposite direction from Gold Club. And it is not right on the main drag but you have to go up a side street around the block into the industrial lots. But it is very near the casino/racetrack/country club so MJP may be trying to catch that group before they head up Powerline Rd. I don't think there's enough of the SuperClub demographic around Upper Broward to sustain this location. even in its former Oakland Park incarnation it was not THAT ambitious. And the successful "middle class" clubs in the area were Cheetah and DD, nowhere near this.

Hmm... I will be in FL a couple of days shortly, I may have to just do some recon.

    LOL this is nuts...

...I got myself on SG's mailing list, so I could keep up with what was going on for the upcoming swing-by, and what should I notice among the Spam the other day but an SG mailing list item, so I retrieve it...

Let me quote cut-n-paste the content:

Headline "Platinum Saturday - July 22 - Solid Gold"

    "Hi there,
Welcome to Solid Gold Fort Lauderdale.
I am your VIP concierge, and I’m here to answer any questions, naughty thoughts, or concerns you might have. For the record - I’m 5’9, my measurements are 34D 23 34. I weigh 127 pounds, and of course my breasts aren’t real. Solid Gold is responsible for more breasts implants than any other Gentlemen’s Club in the country.
Please note my vag is waxed, and I can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.
    ; )
    XO - Your GoldFriend
P.S. If you see me tonight, spank me.

I used to love this club. When I was going there, it had some very hot women. It was a must, every time I was in town.

I'm in the SG FL text list, but I don't think I'm on the mailing list. Was there a picture of this vagina-waxing, statuesque, concierge?

    Nope. It's just so silly.
