I was hearing a discussion on TV News about how there's a "news cycle", and how in politics the various stories have a lifespan until other events replace them. Some are a day, 3 days, a week, and longer. But this thread isn't about politics.
I don't start that many threads but I do one every now and then. My misspelled "Ignore" thread was one of the more popular ones I ever started and only now has its 'news cycle' started to die. With all the posts from people I have on ignore contributing, it SHOULD have only been half as popular. But there was at least some worthwhile grist for the mill. I think the troll mentality thrives off of extended threads even if more inquisitive people pass them by. They just want the volume of posts.
I admit I like when I do a thread that catches the interest of the group. It makes me feel like I'm contributing to the entertainment value of the group. I'm sure the Homophobia Club feels the same way, but they go the low road to get the same result.
I propose The Club do ONLY serious, non-inflammatory posts for a week, and I'll ONLY do outrageous, bitter, insulting trolling for a week. Then we can compare notes.
Except you guys are all on ignore and I like it that way.
I was hearing a discussion on TV News about how there's a "news cycle", and how in politics the various stories have a lifespan until other events replace them. ------------------------------------------ I think the shortening of the news cycle has a lot to do with the internet, blogs, and social media. News story comes out at breakfast, and I've already read about it on my favorite blogs before getting to work. Some people probably get all their news from Facebook, Twitter or even TUSCL. And having a reality show president doesn't help either.
Glad you've found yourself an intelligent ally on the board, @RockStar. Talk about strange bedfellows....
It was said of Ronald Reagan that his administration was the first one to deliberately go about manipulating it, having their thematics worked out many months in advance, things for the news to focus on, for each day, and monitoring this.
Dom...that's what the right said about Obama. Perhaps both sides need to come to the realization that negotiations are cheaper, more efficient and ultimately more effective than war.
You know when the main story on the news is Cecil the lion, the news is distracting off another topic. The guy legally paid for the hunt and he was getting death threats after the news made a story about it. I heard people living in Africa where Cecil lived never heard about Cecil.
About the same as whatever news story the mainstream media wants to distract with.
Lost, because you cannot conquer a map. The US role in Vietnam amounted to neo-colonialism. Popular support for the Diem Regime was always extremely low, and US involvement made it even less. And then he canceled the election, and then his own generals assassinated him. And then as JFK's position on the war started to change, he also was assassinated.
Look what I found. I believe this was for the Muhammad Ali and George Foreman fight. I have seen segments of this where the girl does some titty flashing, but I don't know if that is in this youtube.
