Says 250 mi range, yeah, at what speed? Can it do even one lap around the nürburgring nordschleife without going to reduced power mode, like the Telsa? Ideally you'd probably need 2 laps to heat up the tires but I'm being realistic.

It's a very cool looking car though.

Yeah, electric cars have their greatest strength in low end acceleration. And to soak up lots of power, it has to be all wheel drive.

I mean since it is just discharging its batteries into motors, probably DC motors, it is just as much as it can take without burning rubber.

The limit is in the heating of those motors, and then what kind of range it actually has.

There have been other electric super cars, emphasizing one drive motor for each of its wheels.

Lots of high peak short term power electric cars.

What I find interesting is that the Porsche 918 can beat a Dodge Viper on that Nuremberg track. The Porsche has 8 cylinders, but it is still only about 3.6 liters?

I think part of its strength is just good computer controlling and that it can electrically divert power from the engine to the front wheels. WIth lots of these extreme cars, the limit is in the tires, not the engine power. And Porsche / Audi, has been a pioneer in the use of all wheel drive for going fast on pavement.

And note also that that Porsche, besides beating the Dodge Viper, gets much better highway mileage than a Toyota Prius.

That Porsche is over $700k. But the new Acura NSW is something looking to be comparable! Maybe $300k?

Remember the old slalom course ads with an Audi 100, a 911 Porsche, and a Chevy Corvette. These guys have put lots of thought into why cars can do that they do, and how you can sometimes make high powered cars look silly.

I've written simulation programs myself, and a great deal of what cars can do is more tires, and aerodynamics, than just engine power.

Is that a 1 seater or is it one of those weird configurations where the passenger sits behind the driver? The cockpit looks really narrow.

I prefer vintage sports cars myself, with multi-carb engines. You get the thrills of a race car at 50 mph instead of needing to go 150. But at the top end of the scale, electric is now on the top rung. Even Ferrari's flagship car is electric.

SJG, I think rockstar means the F1 derived KERS, make the LaFerrari a hybrid of sorts:

--> "A kinetic energy recovery system (often known simply as KERS, or kers) is an automotive system for recovering a moving vehicle's kinetic energy under braking. The recovered energy is stored in a reservoir (for example a flywheel or high voltage batteries) for later use under acceleration."

^^^ I think it contributes something like 10% of the BHP claim in the Ferrari, IIRC.

--> "Ferrari Says “Nope, Nope, Nope” to an Electric Vehicle
October 4, 2016

“We would not follow to develop a fully electric car,” Ferrari’s chief technology officer, Michael Leiters, said at the Paris auto show, where the company’s centerpiece was the LaFerrari Aperta (above), the roadster version of its hybrid exotic with a V-12 plus an electric motor. We are convinced that it’s right to have a hybrid car because, for us, ..." -->

--> “THE SOUND IS A VERY CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTIC OF A FERRARI ...." -->

^^^ For emphasis

--> ...the sound is a very crucially important characteristic of a Ferrari, and our customers want to have this. Definitely for us also, the electric technology is interesting, not for reducing emissions but for increasing the performance of the cars,” Leiters said. --> END QUOTE
