Well, they got funding for a stadium (which everyone knew would pass). Looks like the only thing standing in the way now is if the NFL owners approve it.
We have a Reno, NV office and they are all big time Raiders fans. I always wondered how a broke-ass ghetto town like Oakland, CA managed to keep an NFL team. Maybe it is time for them to move to Nevada?
Mark Davis is the poorest NFL owner out there. They say he's worth $500 Million which is the value of the Raiders franchise. He's still in Oakland because he can't afford to throw any money towards a new stadium, so he needs to go somewhere where the stadium is 100% locally financed. Also, his father will forever be hated by most of the NFL owners that ever had to deal with him so they aren't going to make anything easy for Mark. Remember, Al Davis tried to sue the NFL saying his team could be the only team to wear black uniforms.
Take it from someone who loves to gamble and goes to Vegas several times a year, I still strongly disagree with this move from a NFL stand point. I don't see people going to Vegas to go to a football game, visiting NFL players are going to get in trouble while visiting there and worst of all, how do you bet on a game that's happening right there? Are there going to be sportsbooks inside the stadium? NFL keeps preaching they want a "family image" and putting a team in Sin City goes against that image.
As a gambler and NFL fan, doesn't really matter where they put the team, I doubt when I am in Vegas I will ever go to a Raiders game, too many other things to do and I have 3 NFL teams within 3 hours of where I live now.
If Vegas is willing to make the investment and a team can be better off than in another city then I suppoert the move - plus isn't Vegas like just an hour from SoCal?
Papi, stuff is further away in the southwest. It's about 3-4 hours to Vegas from LA or SD. But it is a quick, cheap flight.
Even with SF sharing the bay, Vegas is a tiny market compared to Oakland. Being the 2nd LA team is a far more desirable prize for the Raiders or Chargers.
James is exactly right, plus nobody in Vegas is from Vegas. Most people there follow their teams from back home, wherever home was/is. Will they get behind a new team in Vegas? Who knows.
So true that no one is from there. I go to Las Vegas once at least, and sometimes twice per month. That's where I do all my horrendously expensive clubbing. Every stripper, cab/Uber driver, waitress, etc. that I meet, is always from all over the U.S. - But never actually a Las Vegas local.
Yeah I had a buddy who moved there and I visited all the time. Most of the people we met were from back east, a lot from Boston and New Jersey. I think just about every single person we met was a douche or he an enormous chip on their shoulder. This was around the time when the recession hit Vegas hard. My friend lasted two years then said "I got to get the fuck out of here."
Oakland is across from the bay nd while there are a shit ton of poor ghetto as people, recent trends in the bay area has cause an exponential boom in gentrification. Oakland ain't the Oakland of the 90‘s Nic.
I would love to have a reason to fly into Vegas more often. I love this move.
Wow so a local raiders fans wants the team to move. I think that's the first I have ever heard of a fan wanting their team to move but I understand your motive.
If they were talking about moving to San Antonio I'm guessing you wouldn't be happy with that move.
Yep you are a true Raiders fan just by seeing your avatar! Lol
Thanks for the clarifications on Oakland, NFL owners, Las Vegas, et al. Very enlightening and you guys know a lot about the subject. FWIW I've never been to Oakland nor the Bay Area.
My sales people tell me Las Vegas is a 5 hour drive from their CA offices, timed from dropping their kids off to arriving within the City limits.
GACA is right, Oakland is experiencing crazy gentrification. My Bay area friends all live in Oakland save one person living in an overpriced Berkeley studip.
There are shitty parts of Oakland, but the poor people are being pushed out.
MapQuest says it's about 300-miles or so from LA to LV; so yeah a long-drive - perhaps if they had a train, particularly a fairly high-speed one; it can be a good option for SoCal(ers) to attend the games (assuming there are a lot of Raiders fans in SoCal from their time there)
There's band wagon Raider fans all over So.Cal. Not sure if they'll mob Las Vegas like they do San Diego. If there's any trouble, it;ll be because of them, not the players
Just call me unamerican because I could give a shit about pro foot ball. It's just like strippers. It's all about the money. They don't give a damn about the fans.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles county. Should that make me a Rams fan? After they turned their backs on the LA fans and moved to St. Louis, should their fans continue to root for them. Or how about the St. Louis fans now that they have moved back to LA.
Should I root for the Falcons just because I now live in the Atlanta area? Why? Nobody ever paid to watch me work.
I'm not picking on foot ball. The same thing applies to all pro sports.

So.Cal does not care about No.Cal, Nevada, or Arizona. Unless you come from those places.

Hey aren't raiders and rams fans (old school) Linda one in the same. I mean I've always been a Jim Everett fan.

Nope. Not even close to the same. Rams were more "Orange County" type. Raiders fans were mostly gangStarz :)
