Hurricane Mathew is currently (~4 pm Eastern) offshore due east of South FL at about the same latitude South FL sits.
I live in northern Miami-Dade county and so far have only experienced on and off light showers and some breeze but apparently about 10, 000 people have lost power but thankfully I have not.
The hurricane has a NW track and seems it may get closer to the FL coast as time progresses.
Inner Room Cabaret near Orlando in Central FL is just a block away from the beach in Cocoa Beach but there are some othet businesses and maybe a hotel in between Inner Room and the water so that may shelter it a bit from the wind coming in from the ocean but may not protect it if significant flooding occurs from the storm surge.
Any other east-coasters chime in how it's in your neck of the woods.

Glad you are holding up well so far. Just rain here so far. Expected to get 95mph winds soon after midnight.
Fyi...
Lidos at Cape Canaveral is closed today as per Facebook. I'm guessing IR and Cheaters in Cocoa Beach are too but not confirmed.

Looks like the forecast is for the hurricane to hit land by Cocoa Beach where there are 3 fairly popular SCs about a block off the beach (Lido, Inner Room, Cheaters).

Right now we are getting a lot of rain and wind i am about 50 miles north of where Papi, the worst appears to be sliding past offshore and they are evacuating Juno Beach about 50 miles north of me. So far my electric has been steady and we are staying nice and dry in the house with most of my shutters closed. I have them open a bit in the back south side so i can sit on my patio looking at the lake and keep an eye on the storm.

For those that don't know, Cocoa Beach where the hurricane is forecasted to hit land is in Central FL about 3-hours & 200-miles north of Miami

Ridiculous. Seminole County has a curfew 5AM tomorrow until 7AM Saturday.

I assume there gonna be a lotta hungry ($$$) strippers post the hurricane

Q. Why are women like hurricanes?
A. When they arrive they are all wet and wild, and when they leave they take your house and car.

Just called Tootsies Miami (not planning to visit today but was curious) and they've been open today since noon (their regular hours) - what an operation - the doorgirl once told me that they never close, i.e. open 365 including all holidays

Club climaxx & all three cheetah clubs are closed. Tootsies, like the champ that it is is bragging that it's open. Drove by stir crazy last night & it looked to have a decent crowd for a Wednesday. I may have missed a good night of clubbing.

@ goose, those clubs closed today could potentially open at some point tonight

Storm surge can reach far inland. IR and Lido is very close to the water. Central Florida northward is in the direct path.

*** everyone should run to that 345 ft hill which is the highest elevation..lol

I sure hope the strip clubs are ok.

Stay safe. I have relatives riding it out in Jacksonville. I think they expect storm surge of 7 to 11 feet there and my sister I think is at 40 feet. I guess that's high ground for Florida but one strong 140 mph gust or one tornado and her house could be gone or in shambles and possibly no power or working water for weeks. Hopefully it won't be that bad.
I believe the death toll is over 140 for this storm already. This is what happens when they make me work extra hours or the weekend. When I'm not happy, the weather seems to react. Further evidence I'm really in a coma and this whole universe is a bad dream I created.
I need to stop thinking about the hurricane doing a loop and coming back at south Florida. that would be cruel. I keep wondering could it do that?

Don't talk about clubber like that lol

Well , at Tootsies, you can always climb on a stripper, goosman. :)

@vince The pole there does got really high, it should provide protection from the storm surge.

FYI for pathetic strip club mongers (like myself) - G-5 and Foxy Lady staying open - actually considered the drive South but have to hold down the homefront.. Damn priorities!!

Yes it does, goosman

It looks like we were spared in Central Fl. I hope IR doesn't get hit hard and is open tomorrow.

I live in New England near the coast. Its sunny here and we're going hiking tomorrow in the White Mountains. Since all y'all love giving us shot when we get 24" of snow, 40 mph winds and below freezing temps I plan on.....nah, be safe all.

I think I heard the eye passed about 35 miles east from the Cape Canaveral coast w/ 100 mph gusts recorded in Cocoa Beach & I think the area may be w/o power which may keep IR closed for a few days if indeed the power went out

FPL's website states about 150k customers in Brevard county w/o power (about 50% of its customers in the county)

Not much to report here a lot of hype, in South Palm Beach County it was much overrated.

Evacuations are a pain, but it's better safe than sorry. The current track.shiws this storm never actually making US landfall, but just moving up the coast raking it with the eyewall. Shitty situation for all the barrier islands. Only 1 US death so far, but hundreds dead in that Haitian shithole.

@Clubber, Dolfan, Papi and the South Florida TUSCLers who don't post on the board, stay safe out there!

If the eye does make landfall it may likely be a cat-1or cat-2 at most

I feel really sorry for the Haitians.
Good luck to all. It looks like it is now around Daytona.
Funny story: I thought about visiting a friend in St. Augustine this weekend. Glad that fell by the wayside! Would have been non-brilliant! :(

The whole of Haiti is a welfare state. Virtually no one actually works for a living. I cannot feel sorry for country full of lazy bums who choose to make themselves perpetual victims of earthquakes, hurricanes, epidemics, tidal waves, and volcanoes. Everyone knows I'm a fiscal and social conservative that abhors socialism, but that's the only way that Haiti is ever going to turn itself around. A ruling proletariat of illuminati needs to put everyone to work according to their ability. Refusal to participate must be punished severely. Then, if the country ever has a reliable and self-sustaining infrastructure, they can begin to build a democratic republic.
