OT: Forgotten Companies / Brands

shailynn
They never tell you what you need to know.
What a cut-throat world. What are some brands that someone mentions that you totally forgot about.

I have some:

Nokia (phones)

Palm (phones and digital planners)

Circuit City (aka the shitty Best Buy)

Plymouth / Mercury / Pontiac / Oldsmobile / Saab / Hummer

What are some brands you think could be next?

Sony (yeah you're laughing, but if it weren't for their TVs and Play Station, this company would be dead)

Sears / KMart (its inevitable)

JC Penney

^^^ not as dead as Sears and KMart, but they may not be far behind. They are trying to focus more on on-line shopping.

I wouldn't quite put JC Penney on the list. The only reason it is still around is probably due to the Sephora store inside of them.

I think Damon's rebranded to Seasons because of the perceived racial overtones of the name. I'm not sure if they are still in business or not.

Jeez. I typed Sambo's and it got changed to Damon's by autocorrect! Go figure!

You mentioned a number of car brands that bit the dust and forgot Saturn. I admit I was a big Saturn guy, and in retrospect, I have no idea why.

Haha I walked into a convince store the other day and they had a tub full of "Crystal Pepsi." Remember that clear garbage? I was thinking, it was shitty the first time around, why bring it back?

I never have tried it but I'll just assume it was and still is "shitty."

    Sega
    NeoGeo
    Sun Microsystems
    sgi
    Cray
    Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)

Hewlett Packard .. er my bad .. they just renamed it 'Agilent' and kept the leftover crap as HP, and HP and HPE.

HP (calculator division, RPN notation entry)

NeXT .. er my bad .. they just renamed it Apple and killed the renants of the leftover crap formerly known as Apple Computer. What we call "Apple" today is essentially NeXT, IMO.

    Zayre (Stores)
    Sambo's (Restaurants)
    Standard Oil Company (now bp)
    Union Carbide (now Graftech)
    Zenith television
    Spirograph (drawing toys)
    Kenner (toy company)

Playboy (it got is shit handed to it by Maxim magazine. This is one reason why it is going clothed/non-nude. In Maxim's first year, it ate Playboy for lunch, IMnshO, with clothed models, while being sexier than Playboy at the same time. Did I mention Maxim featured clothed models? Yeah. The sad part of this is Maxim is a shell of its former self, too.)

This is fun . . . Brands that no longer exist for which major stadiums were named:

    3Com (Park) in San Francisco
America West (Arena) in Phoenix (followed by)
    US Airways (Center) in Phoenix
    Bank One (Ballpark) in Phoenix
Continental Airlines (Arena) in New Jersey
    Enron (Field) in Houston
    TransWorld (Dome) in St. Louis
    MCI (Centre) in Washington D.C.
    and soon to be . . .
    Sports Authority (Field) in Denver

    I'm sure there's more . . .
