Are you picking SJG because he would get assasinated within an hour of being sworn in. That way the world is better and you don't have to as much campaigning.
SJG/ Dougster? That's scraping the Barrel. Which sigh I think both of the major parties did this year. The only thing I can say for certain is that they couldn't do any more harm than either Trump or Hillary are capable of.
Thomas Jefferson tried to outlaw organized religion in the Virginia State Constitution. But eventually he decided that that would be unworkable. So today we have the 1st Amendment language which requires that there be no special legal status for religion. Much more workable.
Maybe once I used to want to change the world. But the problem is I'd just have to have too many guillotines operating simultaneously. And even then it would be never ending. The middle-class family produces idiots faster than I could ever deal with them.
So now I just want to build my own organization. We will exert influence for sure, but we will also protect our own affairs.
No, Dougster, I actually returned to this thread because I wanted to clarify. Even though I want to set up my own realm, where the sex flows freely like water in a river, this does not mean I support what you are doing on Wall Street. I am completely opposed to it.
Either you have Democracy, or you have Social Darwinism. And what you are committed to is the latter.
Democracy depends upon a politically conscious electorate. It depends on the same things that Socialism depends on. And if you have this politically conscious electorate, they are never going to vote for people who want to say that some people are deserving and some people are not deserving, and so that poverty and exploitation are justified. Modern Capitalism is completely dependent on Social Darwinism to justify it. If anything else, interacting here with TUSCL members has convinced me that what is happening in the US today is completely dependent on Social Darwinism.
So even though in my own organization we will hold people to very high standards, especially the men. This does not mean that I take an elitist or two-tier view of the rest of our society, not at all.
I think we discussed this before. My ideal would be an Athenian like participatory democracy. There's a reason no other civilization in history can rival what Athens did on a per capita basis during its Golden Age.
Hate it, though you might, you and I actually some ideas on politics that are very closely aligned. (And, of course, others that are not so aligned at all.)
Athens was a small place, a City State, and what they had did not last that long. And it was not without large scale dissent either. My own sympathies go more to a man like Socrates, a skeptic. But I do enjoy the ideas put forth in Plato's Republic. But Plato did not trust anything like Democracy.
People say though that the most undemocratic aspect of Ancient Greece was in the family, in Patriarchy.
Have you ever read Julian Jaynes?
"you and I actually some ideas on politics that are very closely aligned. (And, of course, others that are not so aligned at all.)"
Actually, my first exposure to formal philosophy was with Book 1 of Plato's Republic, sometimes known as Thrasymachus, as it is a dialogue between he and Socrates, with some students present.
I like it greatly because Socrates demolishes the argument that "Good is simply the will of the stronger."
Though today I can see other vantage points in regard to this, and ways of criticizing Socrates, I still think the argument valid in most cases. Most people in this world will just throw up their hands and say that you can't do anything about any problem, and they will go along with the idea that what the strongest, i.e. richest, wants, must be for the greater good. They have given up, and they have become like a frog sitting at the bottom of a well. And of course we see this in how people support Trump. And I think the refutation Socrates gave to Thrasymachus, also shows the fallacies inherent in chasing after money. It is indeed a bottomless pit.
Of course I don't go along with this. From that my greater interest developed. But I am always someone who has taken ethical issues, both large and small, very seriously. Never inclined to just go with the flow.
I should also mention that someone once pointed out to me, that it is not fair to accept the writings of Plato as a balanced portrayal of the Sophists, any more than it would be fair to take the Gospels as a representative portrayal of the Pharisees.

But I have never suggesting banning religion.

SJG is a good choice for a running mate - California is a huge state and thus pivotal (lots of electoral votes)

I've actually got even bigger plans for building up a power base, ones which don't depend on being able to get elected.

^^^^^^^ And part of my motivation is that I don't want to have to deal with morons and imbeciles. I want to set up something which works differently.
The middle-class family was designed to abuse children. It turns would be Einstein's, Mozart's, Andy Warhol's, and Elon Musk's into Homer Simpson's.

Yes that's right. They tried to turn me into an idiot like Homer Simpson.
But it didn't work. I resisted. I fought back.
My organization will be composed entirely of men and women who have fought back like that.
