    OP, can you lease explain to me 1. In Song of Solomon, why does Solomon have sex with his woman long before the wedding takes place? 2. How is it that Solomon is described in the Bible as one of the wisest men who ever lived, but yet he had literally hundreds of wives and prostitutes that he fucked on a regular basis? 3. Why is David described in the Bible as a man after God's own heart, a man who was a descendant of Jesus, but yet he fucked another man's beautiful wife, got her pregnant, and then killed her husband to keep from getting caught? 4. Why were so many leading biblical characters involved in so much sexual activity that you now condemn. For example, the patriarchs had multiple wives and fucked their servants. How can godly men do such things? 5. Do you know where in the Bible it is taught that (1) a woman's breasts are for the sexual satisfaction of men?, and (2) the body of a Christian wife sexually belongs to her husband and she must submit to all of his sexual needs? I think that one of the truly unique things about the Bible is that all the people are portrayed complete with all their flaws. 2. Also, I believe that they were "concubines" vs "prostitutes". Admittedly a fine distinction. 3. Why is David described in the Bible as a man after God's own heart, a man who was a descendant of Jesus, but yet he fucked another man's beautiful wife, got her pregnant, and then killed her husband to keep from getting caught? - That absolute power pitfall again. David rationalizes that if he simply places Uriah the Hittite in a position to be killed, then he did not actually kill him. However, to obtain the full context of the story it is necessary to read on, to where the prophet Nathan confronts him and makes David see the error of his ways. However, David does not escape his punishment, the child born to Bathsheba and David does despite his earnest entreaties. The main takeaway from this story is that no earthly ruler is above God. 4. How can godly men do such things? - Times were different then, and there were no laws prohibiting multiple marriages, at least multiple wives. Monogamy was a con.cept developed later. And aren't you glad? How hard would it have been for you to get rid of five or six wives? ;-) 5. I suspect that the ultimate takeaway is that our bodies are meant to provide pleasure to each other. The second reference is from the letters of Paul, and are mentioned in a couple of passages. Paul has an undeserved reputation as a misogynist. Again, you have to read the entire passage. "Wives, submit yourselves to your husband's" is immediately followed by an exhortation for men as heads of the families, to put the needs of their wives and children at the very center of their own beings. In other words, men are to submit themselves to the needs of their families. This would have been so far outside the secular mores of the time as to be almost revolutionary! 6. Why should we give a shit about sexual mores from 2,000 years ago? - I hope, JS, that a bit more study shows that the Bible is not as far out of step as you might have thought. I think that our understanding of scripture, aided by science and improved translations, gives a whole new perspective on issues like love, in all of its forms, including homosexuality. In the best of worlds, marital fidelity would be the ideal (and by this I mean between a man and a woman, two women or two men that are committed to each other).     BTW, Dur-flush, the New Living Bible is more properly referred to as a paraphrase, not a translation. No original documents were studied to produce it.

    Dur_flush - after reading many of SJG's posts - I'd say your use of AMP isn't correct - unless there are references to Asian Massage Parlors in the Bible...
