Whipped Cream and Other Delights, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, 1965

money was invented for handing to women, but buying dances is a chump's game
I just learned about this album cover. Even though it doesn't show that much skin, not by todays standards, I still find it to be a really powerful turn on.

Now of course to me, this is suggestive of todays Tijuana Hong Kong Bar, and that back stage. But I can't find any online pictures of their whipped cream show. I can't find any mention that the album cover is intended to be suggestive of a strip club. To me it seems suggestive of a wedding dress. No mention of strip clubs in conjunction with it, but I find it still to be a very powerful suggestion given the Mexican theme.

Now to make this picture they actually used shaving cream. This makes sense, and you can see that this is so. And when I've read about the Hong Kong Bar show, people always call it shaving cream. Obviously it could not be, and those guys have never participated.

I also find it interesting that the model, Dolores Erickson of Seattle, was 3 months pregnant on the day of the shoot. I think this is at least on a subliminal level part of the picture's appeal.

I remember once watching a video where they showed a design by Jean Paul Gaultier, the Barefoot and Pregnant Wedding Dress. It was very simple, full skirted, but slightly sheer and really clingy on the front side. This album cover reminds me of that.

Of course I've listened to Herb Alpert albums before. I don't know if it can still be considered as real Mexican music, like what I hear all around me at restaurants in San Jose

Do other people think the 1965 album cover is intended to be suggestive of a Mexican strip club / brothel? Does the apparent whipped cream add to the erotic effect?

I do plan to be there, and I plan to participate fully. Sex on stage, getting handcuffed to the pole, or even being drunk, no. But I do plan to fully engage with their whipped cream girls, and at least one of them I will take up to my room. This might actually entail lifting her clear of the stage. So on account of this, I won't be following Rick Dugan. My clothes will be machine washable. Better for when one wants to fully participate.

    76 yo,

Do other people feel that the whipped cream ( actually shaving cream ) is suggestive of a brothel, specifically of a Mexican one? Why?

Did Herb Alpert have any taste for such places?

Is there some reason that the whipped cream is more enticing than just skimpy and removable clothes, or even just nudity.

    It certainly gets to me.

Do people think the picture is suggestive of a girl in a wedding dress and that this is part of it's appeal? Or do just the fullness of the skirting, with the implied conservatism, make it suggestive of Mexico?

Reflecting on this, I think the idea of a whipped cream girl must be related to Tijuana and it's sex industry. Where else, especially back in 1965, would anyone see a whipped cream girl? TJ has long been known for it's anything goes strip clubs, really it's live sex shows.

So if the album cover is not a reference to that, then how do the band members, their music, or the listeners have any connection to whipped cream?

It must be the sex tourism and the live sex shows in TJ.

I don't really know how they do it on that back stage in the TJ Hong Kong Bar. I don't know how many of their girls go for that. But I think the best way would be just to have a bunch of whipped cream girls lined up, and then for some amount, not just $1, you can effective 'buy' one of them for the set and lick her clean. Then probably you would take her upstairs.

Anything done in front of other people like that gets the whole room heated up. I know this is why they do such things in TJ.

I still remember decades ago this Vietnamese civilian KRD, who brought a tub of Cool Whip to my home. She was miles ahead of where I was at back then. One of my biggest regrets from that era was that I did not spend enough time in bed with her, but instead continued to see another.

I like the idea of a tub, more than the cans with the propellant. She could apply some and then model for me like that, maybe even let me photograph her. Better than pasties.

I think about TJ. I think I would be bringing a Cool Whip tub, to put in the ice chest that TMojo recommended. Especially if I was going to be upstairs with a girl I'd licked whipped cream off of before, then I would want to bring it into play.

Still, I can't find anyone who says where the idea of whipped cream originated. How far back does it go, and what was the original context?

Say you were to be a trumpet player. Would you want to play like Louis Armstrong, like Dizzy Gillespie, like Miles Davis, or would you want to play like Herb Alpert?

I know that people see it as silly music, novelty music, and all. And then some of it is really sappy. But I still like it. The two trumpets works well. They say he found his distinctive sound in Mexico, attending a bull fight.
