As an alternative to the restrictive rules proposed by Shadowcat I'd like to propose the following:

1. Be entertaining!
2. Don't be a dick (unless its entertaining)
3. Be truthful (unless doing so is dickish or non-entertaining).

Why all the emphasis on truthfulness? The value of truth is greatly over estimated.

Different sets of "rules" are never needed, honestly organizing things in a different way can have amazing impact on the discussion boards that follow.
