80 years ago Today...

Prohibition came to an end with the ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment, which repealed the Eighteenth Amendment which instituted Prohibition.

Repeal is what happened when Conservatives retook America from liberals and stopped them from screwing around with the Constitution.

Yea, now they are centered in San Fran - contemplating making butterflies illegal. It never ends with those ignorant people.

It has been proven repeatedly - who are the know it alls? The ones who don't know shit.

I'm a liberal but I don't believe in the "nanny state". I think it's unfair to think all liberals do. I just wish when conservatives talk about keeping government out of our personal lives, they'd do that in issues like abortion, contraception and gay marriage. Walking the walk is important.

@Rockstar666, you use the word, "liberal" in its archaic meaning. Liberals once favored government oversight to protect a free market economy and were generally willing to spend more tax dollars on infrastructure than "conservatives." As used today, "liberal" means a "progressive," big government, government controls everything, extremist (think Pelosi). I am guessing the reason for the changed usage is that progressive (read: socialist) extremists overwhelmed the Democrats and most (if not all) Democrats in D.C. are progressives who want to use the older label.

Why not move from being a "liberal" who does not believe in what the Democrat progressives are attempting, to a libertarian? The conservatives you bemoan, are no better than progressives in wanting federal laws to control the morals of the population. The libertarian concept is fewer laws, smaller government and strict application of the constitution (I know, one person's "strict" is another's misinterpretation). The libertarian claims are something like, live and let live - but stay out of my wallet and my bedroom!

Jab-I've never done more than a weekend in the county. I was referencing individuals who have served time for joints and half-ounce possession.

@Dallas I'm actually an anarchist philosophically because I think we are all entitled to our own rules. The problem is mankind as a whole is extremely ill equipped to handle our own rules. We join religions that other people invented, we follow a system of government that serves itself more than the people. Too many people would infringe on others rights without law enforcement and a penal system.

Maybe in 50,000 years we will have evolved to be able to embrace anarchy, but until then we have to make due. That means the dance we do between individual freedoms and those who think the public welfare takes precedence.

I am a social liberal, a fiscal moderate, and a moral conservative (not to be confused with social liberalism). I doubt there's any real label I would think was a fair representation of my views.
